🌿 THE DAY AFANG SOUP SAVED THE HOUSE🌿

The rain started falling that evening.

Not small rain oo…

The kind rain wey makes everywhere quiet and cold.

NEPA don take light.

Generator no get fuel.

Everybody just dey vex and dey hungry.
The whole house dull like Monday morning.

Then suddenly…

From the kitchen —

kpaaaam!

Sound of pot cover.

Followed by one aroma…

Omo.

That smell no be normal smell.

That one na Afang soup perfume 😩🔥

The scent crawl enter sitting room like thief…

Pass through corridor…

Even reach outside gate.

My younger brother shout:

“Who dey cook that thingggg?!”

Mama just dey smile.

Waterleaf dey boil jejely.

Palm oil dey shine like gold.

Stockfish dey dance inside pot.

Assorted meat full everywhere like party guests.

Then she pour the sliced Afang leaves…

Green. Fresh. Alive.

She stir am slow slow like say she dey perform ritual.

At that moment, hunger hold everybody neck.

No light. No fan.

But nobody complain again.

Because hope don return.

Food hope 😂

Five minutes later…

“Food is ready!”

Omo, the way we rush that kitchen ehn?

You go think say na free money dem dey share.

Pounded yam dey hot.

Soup thick like destiny.

First swallow enter…

Silence.

Serious silence.

Only sound wey remain na:
“Chop… chew… sigh…”

That day, no argument.
No phone.
No TV.

Just family, laughter, and one powerful pot of Afang soup bringing everybody together.

Since then, anytime life hard small…

We no dey pray first.

We say:
“Make we cook Afang.” 😭🔥

Because some soups no be just food…
