Product Market Fit - the degree to which a product satisfies customer demand.

Before Airbnb, hotels were the only options when it came to booking accomodations. The market was already used to hotels even though even though hotels had their shortcomings - one of which was the cost.

Due to a personal problem, (being late on rent at the same time there was a conference in their city) the Airbnb founders were able to identify a gap in the market.

Having identified this need, and testing it with their own home, they were able to come up with a double edged solution that solved a dual problem.

They could help home owners make money and help travellers get a home away from home at a fair deal.

It was a win win win for consumers at both ends.

Over time, they have deployed and continue to deploy different strategies to grow and scale beyond ideation.
