💎Brick, concrete, porcelain stoneware ... So what else is used in the construction of large-scale projects? Spoiler: it's not as boring as it seems at first glance. Let us tell you!

When selecting building materials, features and protective properties are taken into account: fire resistance, durability, thermal conductivity. For example, for facades Archid Studio uses ceramic bricks, composite panels, fibre cement, porcelain stoneware, concrete tiles. For interiors, metal, textured plaster, coquina and glass blocks are often chosen.

Not all materials can be used for walls, ceilings and floors. For example, we actively use wood and recycled plastics for landscaping and furnishing spaces.

Our team works remotely from different parts of the planet. At the same time, it's important for us to transparently measure the labour costs of designers and work on team’s efficiency. ✏️The International School in Dubai: how to adapt it to Dubai's climate?

The International School in Dubai is a modern school concept that Archid Studio developed together with IND Architects. It is important for us to create comfort and make the building resistant to Dubai's climate.

📐Already at the concept stage, we have developed complex solutions for insolation, adapting it to the region's temperature. Architects and BIM specialists together created a parametric sun-considering facade and self-shaded courtyards, ensuring comfortable and energy-efficient environments.

BIM managers developed a specialised script in Dynamo* (explained below) for generating an optimised facade solution. The concept was for the facade's rhythm to be determined by the direction of sunlight, that's why the building's contour has such smooth outlines. This was done through the play with windows — the window width has many intermediate sizes, from the widest on the north side to the narrowest on the south side.

🏙️ How do you turn skyscrapers into batteries?

"Futurism" writes that architects behind the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building, are collaborating with Energy Vault to transform future skyscrapers into massive batteries that are powered by graphite.

Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), known for their work on the One World Trade Center, will use their expertise to develop gravity energy storage systems. These systems lift and lower massive blocks of recycled waste materials, storing excess renewable energy during periods of low demand and releasing it when demand is high.

Energy Vault's proven technology can scale to store several gigawatt-hours of energy, with successful projects already in China and Switzerland. This innovative solution addresses the challenge of efficiently storing green energy, especially when production peaks do not align with demand.

✏️ An architect has many different tasks on their shoulders: drawings, design, working with the team and the client, all kinds of approvals, etc. There is a lot of routine in an architect's work, but it is often not without creativity.

We asked Alexandra Trubetskaya, the leading architect, to tell us how her typical day goes.

💬"Our work consists of many tasks: building a model of the future building, linking architecture, structures and engineering systems, coordinating our solutions, and improving the layouts every day. We form all the solutions into models, saturating them with information parameters that we use at the next stages of the object's life cycle.
