E-invoicing is coming to the UAE, and businesses may need to prepare sooner than they think.

From 1 January 2027, businesses with annual revenue of AED 50 million or more will need to issue electronic invoices in a structured format through an accredited service provider.

They must appoint their provider by 30 October 2026.

Smaller businesses have more time, with provider appointments due by 31 March 2027 and e-invoicing starting from 1 July 2027.

But here’s something worth thinking about:
Getting ready for e-invoicing isn’t just about switching to a new system.

Your invoice data needs to be in order, too. Customer details, TRNs and transaction classifications all need to be accurate and consistent.

If your records aren’t organised today, fixing everything at the last minute could become a real headache.

The best time to sort out your invoicing records is now, before the deadlines get closer.

Do you know which e-invoicing phase your business falls under?

Many business owners file their UBO details when setting up a company and don’t think about them again.

But UBO information needs to stay up to date.

In the UAE, changes to your beneficial ownership details must be updated and notified to the relevant authority within 15 days.

This isn’t just about adding a new shareholder or transferring shares. Even a renewed passport or a change of address for a listed owner can mean your records need updating.

These changes can easily go unnoticed. Someone renews their passport, moves to a new address, or changes their shareholding, while the company’s UBO register remains unchanged.

The issue often comes to light only when a bank, auditor or authority asks for the latest records.

A simple annual review can help you spot outdated information before it becomes a compliance headache.

*When was the last time you checked your company’s UBO records?*

Many UAE business owners only hear about a Tax Residency Certificate (TRC) when someone suddenly asks them for one.

Usually, that “someone” is a foreign tax authority asking for proof that the business is actually a tax resident of the UAE.

A TRC can be important when you're dealing with income from another country and want to claim benefits under a Double Taxation Agreement.

Without the right proof of UAE tax residency, you could face unnecessary tax complications, and in some cases, the risk of the same income being taxed in both countries.

Not every business needs a TRC right away. But if you work with international clients, have overseas operations, or receive income from outside the UAE, it's worth knowing about it before you actually need one.

A little preparation can save a lot of back-and-forth later.

A lot of business owners look at their P&L and feel like they know how the business is doing.

But there’s more to the picture.

Your P&L tells you if you made a profit or a loss over a period. It doesn’t tell you how much cash you actually have, what you owe, or what the business owns.

That’s where the balance sheet and cash flow statement come in.

You can be profitable on paper and still find yourself short on cash.

The three statements answer different questions, so looking at just one can leave you missing important things.

If you had to choose one, which financial statement do you check most often?

The Corporate Tax deadline is getting closer. But is your filing actually ready?

Preparing a Corporate Tax return isn't something that should begin on the day you plan to submit it.

Before filing, take a step back and review the information behind your numbers.

Ask yourself:

Are my accounting records complete?
Have all income and expenses been properly recorded?
Do I have the supporting documents I may need?
Have relevant tax adjustments been considered?
Does my Corporate Tax calculation match my records?
Have I confirmed the correct deadline for my Tax Period?

The closer you get to the deadline, the less time you have to investigate something unexpected.

Don't just focus on submitting on time. Focus on submitting accurate information.

With 30 September approaching, now is the time for a proper final review.

September 30 is getting closer. Is your Corporate Tax return really ready?

One mistake businesses often make is waiting for the deadline to start preparing.

The deadline is the "last day to file", not the day to start getting your records together.

Before you file, take a few minutes to check:

âś“ Are your accounting records complete?
âś“ Have your income and expenses been reviewed?
âś“ Do you have all the supporting documents?
âś“ Have you checked for any adjustments that could affect your taxable income?
âś“ Has your Corporate Tax calculation been reviewed?
âś“ Are you clear on your filing and payment deadlines?

It’s much easier to fix a missing document or unclear figure now than when the deadline is just around the corner.

Don’t wait until September 30 to discover something isn’t ready.

If your Corporate Tax return is due then, now is a good time to do a quick check.

If you only look at your business numbers when you actually need them, you're probably looking too late.

Good bookkeeping isn't about recording everything once and forgetting about it. Your records should help you understand what's happening in the business right now, not just what happened months ago.

A simple monthly routine helps with this. Record any outstanding transactions, check your bank reconciliation, go through unpaid invoices, review the major expenses, and keep an eye out for anything unusual or missing.

You don't need to wait until year-end to find out something doesn't add up.

A little attention to your books every month saves a lot more work later on.

VAT filing becomes stressful when the checking starts on filing day.

By then, you're trying to find missing invoices, check VAT amounts, reconcile figures and understand why something doesn't match.

A better approach is to make a few checks part of your regular routine.

Before filing your VAT return, make sure you've reviewed:

Sales invoices
Purchase invoices
VAT amounts
Credit notes and adjustments
Supporting records
Differences between your accounting records and VAT figures

You don't need to wait until the deadline to discover a problem.

The best time to find an error is before it becomes part of your VAT return.

How early do you usually start preparing for your VAT filing?

AED 375,000 or AED 187,500 — which one actually applies to your business?

This comes up constantly, so here's the simple version.

If your taxable supplies and imports go over AED 375,000, VAT registration isn't optional anymore. That's the mandatory threshold, and once you cross it, you need to register.

AED 187,500 is different. If you're under the mandatory threshold but your taxable supplies, imports or qualifying expenses hit this number, you're allowed to register voluntarily even though you don't have to yet.

One thing people miss: it's not just about looking back at your annual sales. If you expect to cross the mandatory threshold within the next 30 days, that can trigger the registration requirement too, not just hitting the number itself.

Worth checking the actual figures against current FTA rules before assuming which category you fall into.

Quick way to remember it: 375K is mandatory, 187.5K is voluntary.

Your customer records may need a review more often than you think.

Businesses change, and so do their customers. Contact details, ownership, activities, all of it can shift over time without anyone noticing.

If your records stay frozen while the customer keeps changing, they slowly stop giving you an accurate picture.

One habit fixes most of this. Check important customer information regularly, and update it as soon as something changes.

Don't wait until you urgently need that information to find out half of it is outdated.

When was the last time you reviewed your customer records?
