"Don't compare yourself to others, you have no idea what their journey is like."
It's just such a simple yet profound statement that gets to the heart of why comparing ourselves to others is so toxic and unproductive.
The way I see it, we're all on these highly personal, complex journeys through life. What may look like overnight success or unfair advantage for someone else is often the result of years of hard work, sacrifice, and personal struggles that we can't even begin to fathom from the outside looking in. When we start measuring our own path against theirs, we're only setting ourselves up for feelings of inadequacy, frustration and resentment.
I think the healthiest, most empowering approach is to just focus on our own unique story - celebrating our wins, learning from our setbacks, and doing the hard work to become the best version of ourselves. Everyone has their own mountains to climb, their own battles to fight. Instead of worrying about how we stack up, we'd be much better off just putting our heads down and trying to actualize our own potential.
It's a message of humility, self-acceptance and understanding. We're all just doing our best to navigate this crazy journey called life. The more we can embrace that, and have empathy for the challenges others face, the more joy and fulfillment I think we'll find in our own lives.
