Always start with what they want!

I just got off a call with a parent of one of our clients, who reached out to ask how I get her son to listen to me... She wanted to know how I make the impact I do... I told her there is no magic formula. When I work with youth I focus on and building for him, from his perspective! and no matter what is discussed, I look for and reinstate the positives.

My ethos is, that making lasting changes is always easier when we are encouraged, not reminded of what we are doing wrong.

At the end of our discussion, she left with one key thought, He must change his vision of himself, in his own head, if you want him to act and believe he can become a new version of himself! 😍

Here's a tip for budding leaders 😉 : it works for teams in business as well!

Thinking across functions and finding interconnectivity comes naturally to me. Last week I had the please to host a great conversation with a dynamic group of leaders within a fortune 500 FMCG firm on . The attendees made a number of gracious comments about how I use my brain, and see business and the world that seemed to be a bit 'awe-inspired'.

Yet, upon reflection I realized that many issues I have faced in my career also stem from this form if thinking. With over 25 years of business experience, I have been told to "hold my space", and "not interfere." I have been looked at sideways when expressing how I received how decisions being considered in finance could influence operations and sales, and I have had many a "talking to" over the course of my career about speaking about things I "couldn't possibly understand."

Systems thinking is a blessing, no doubt, but with everything, and the environment needs to be considered greatly.

I embrace and on , and while many have hired me in-house or on an Advisory/consultancy basis, sometimes what is unearthed can feel surprising and too much to handle. A blessing if your client is ready, a curse when the politics are overpowering.

I share these thoughts to show that there are many sides to any gift. We all have unique that we need to manage and cultivate in order to achieve success. To just be seen as talented doesn't guarantee success, people are complex and the teams we create even more so.

What gifts have you had to "manage" to achieve success?

The importance of opportunities for is one of the real drivers for keeping them to work and prepared to work longer. It doesn't matter if it is an or a , youth need to feel like they have something to and the contribution will be .

Currently most youth think the first job after graduation is a 1-2 year stint and when I ask them why, they feel that the role will be awful and the "experience" they will gain will allow them to get a elsewhere which they will stay longer at.

This is a real waste for employers... if that same employee felt the initial employer was investing , and in them, then the rate would fall and it could be a -win.

Think about it, your replacement costs are worth the consideration. If managers the business through , you , grow your own , and at the bottom building your own and increasing and decreasing for the same level of talent along the way!

food for thought...

I am often asked how I do it all, lecture at a Uni, COO for an Edtech platform, CEO for my own company president of a local chapter of a global Woman's Networking group, and raise 2 beautiful kiddos while staying sane and married!

The truth is compartments of time for each. I could never dream of doing it all at the same time, but I am structured to manage my time accordingly. Does it wear me out? Sure, do I miss out on something somewhere along sometimes? You bet!

But everything I do brings a certain amount of special joy that makes me say Bring it on!

No regrets! I enjoy life and still feels positive about what I do and the impact I have on the people I serve!

This image was shared with me today, and so I will share it back. Time and attention are the main things that my children, husband, extended family, colleagues, and even my neighbours ask for.

How often do we give these gifts of time and attention to ourselves?

The time to reflect on who we are, where we are going, how we feel, what we are doing, who we have influenced, and most importantly, what truly matters to us.

The attention to why... why are we doing the things that we do, why are we saying the things that we say and why are we paying attention to how all these things affect us (the good, the bad, and the ugly)...

I spent this morning in deep reflection and collaboration. How is what we are doing impacting the people we serve? Is our message clear, and does the vision support the journey.

My energy is truly buzzing. Collaboration is the best injection for motivation!

Letting others question my motives, impact, and expectations really does strengthen and develop strategy... the continuous loop!

Validation kicks butt!
