There are lots of steps you can do in preparation for your job interview. Preparation will not only give you an edge over interviewees, but it will also calm your nerves allowing you to be your natural and best self.
Here are six (6) tips that will help you get ready for your big day:
1. Prepare for the Unknown
The absolute last thing you want to happen on the day of your interview is to be running around feeling flustered. For example, getting lost and being late. These occurrences although not always controllable, can be disorienting and will distract you from doing a good job. Ahead of time, ensure you get the location of the interview. Businesses move, the last place you knew XYZ to be may be different now!
2. Dress the Part
In addition to preparing for the unknown, you should also think ahead about what you are going to wear. Corporate classics are always best! It is better to err on the side of slightly more formal, rather than less. By picking out your clothes, ironing in advance and feeling comfortable would make your day easier, make you more comfortable and confident.
3. Print your materials
It is always a good idea to bring a few copies of your resume to the interview. You might also have supplemental materials, like a portfolio of work, your sales record, and so on.
4. Do your research
Before the interview, dig deeper into the organization and the job. If you know anyone that works at the organization, that person could be a great source of intel. Of course, that employee is already hired and may share more than you need to know nevertheless, take the positives and learn everything you can about the job description and the company. Your job in the interview is to demonstrate that you are qualified and you have a clear understanding of the job.
5. Prepare for questioning
This should be on repeat! Think about your responses to common interview questions. Also, keep in mind that your interview may have follow-up questions aimed at digging deeper into what you have to say.
Once you come up with your responses, call a friend and practice doing some mock interviews- Your mirror will work too! Be natural
6. Have Fun!
