Light reveals what time has preserved.

Deep beneath St. Peter’s Basilica, the Vatican Necropolis has reopened to the public with a new lighting concept that respectfully illuminates one of Christianity’s most sacred sites.

Designed in collaboration with AkzoNobel Powder Coatings, Orion S.A., and other project partners, the bespoke solution enhances ancient mausoleums, mosaics, reliefs, and historic pathways while keeping the luminaires themselves almost invisible.

Careful light guidance, advanced anti-glare technology, and materials engineered for extreme conditions help visitors experience the unique atmosphere of this remarkable archaeological treasure.

We celebrated the launch of LIGHT & WATER, the latest artistic annual report of the Zumtobel Group, created by renowned Danish architect Dorte Mandrup

The book explores the fascinating interplay of light, water, and architecture. Taking the Danish coastal landscape as its starting point, it shows how natural phenomena shape our perception of spaces, materials, and places. Striking analog photographs by Adam Mørk Adam Mørk and interdisciplinary perspectives bring this interplay to life in a unique way.

Around 300 guests joined us for this special occasion, gaining exclusive insights into the project and hearing from Dorte Mandrup and Russell Loveridge.

Smarter lighting. Better working conditions. Lower energy consumption.

At IKEA logistics platform in Saint-Quentin-Fallavier, France, nearly 90% of the lighting installation was modernized with CRAFT II and basicDIM Wireless from Zumtobel.

By activating light only where people are present and adjusting output based on ambient light levels, the site achieved 15% to 23% energy savings while improving visibility and comfort for employees across its 100,000 m² operation.

For LIGHT & WATER, this year’s Artistic Annual Report by Dorte Mandrup, architectural photographer Adam Mørk set out to document the relationship between architecture, light and water using an analogue 4×5 large-format camera. The resulting photographs take viewers on a journey through Denmark's diverse landscapes, revealing water in its many forms and its constant dialogue with light.

The collaboration between Dorte Mandrup and Adam Mørk spans more than two decades. LIGHT & WATER marks their first publication together, bringing a new body of photographs to life. The behind-the-scenes images featured here showcase the creative process behind the book and the dedication required to capture these extraordinary moments.

Since 1991, renowned figures from the fields of architecture, graphic design and art have been invited each year to create the Zumtobel Group’s Annual Report in response to the theme of light. Free from the constraints of corporate design guidelines, these collaborations have resulted in a series of unique publications that have long since achieved collector’s status.

This year’s edition, titled LIGHT & WATER, was created by Danish architect Dorte Mandrup.

The book explores the different water conditions through the lens of architecture to reveal the interrelationship between the natural phenomena and our spatial experience.
