At Athena Irrigation we’re devoted to conserving one of the earth’s most precious resources – water, while making growers more profitable. Based on 4 years of field research we have developed a solution that will save you between 35-50% of water usage compared to the best plant sensor technologies on the market such as pressure bombs, porometers, dendrometers and sap flow sensors. We recognise tha
t almost every vineyard has variability that causes area to have various levels of vine vigour throughout the season and our goal is to convert this heterogeneity into a vineyard that has a consistent level of vine vigour throughout each phenological stage therefore giving you an overall better crop at harvest time as well as lower operating costs throughout the season. The reason we can do this is that our solution is already calibrated for the cabernet sauvignon and shiraz cultivars and how their specific stomatal conductance patterns are linked directly to their plant water status instead of a reading that is generic to grapevines in general. Out TranspIR solution use infrared sensors to record leaf temperature, canopy temperature and humidity and transmit that data via a cellular connection to our cloud-based algorithm that interprets the data and graphically represents your plant water status in a range that will easily show you when the plant is entering water stress and when it has enough water. Stay tuned to Athena Irrigation as we are actively researching other cultivars that we will be able to add to our algorithm.
