One Small step for SharePoint Online, one giant leap for Copilot adoption!

Ok, maybe that's a slight exaggeration ... 😀 but I was genuinely pleased to read this new article. Learning from past experiences from "Security via Obscurity" type issues (refer to a previous post on 12th Nov 2023) – the newfound capability to control Copilot's access to a curated set of SharePoint sites is a welcome development.

Personally, I'm viewing this as a short-term strategy as it buys organisations valuable time for a comprehensive data clean-up (ROT, Security, Sensitivity, Classification and Metadata).

On the flip side, there is also the risk of limiting Copilot indefinitely should the organisation choose to cease further Data Curation work. Let's navigate this balancing act wisely!

Disappointed to see Microsoft discontinue Viva Topics. I was quite a fan of the product and felt it had a lot more potential. While it had its limitations, I was optimistic about their resolution over time. Its capacity to provide an immersive Knowledge Management presentation experience for organisations was noteworthy.

Hoping to see this technology repurposed in products like CoPilot. Perhaps even re-imagined...
