8/5/26 From space, the story of the Lake Eyre Basin reveals itself.

The green ribbons cutting through the outback is water, life and movement across one of the largest internal drainage systems on Earth. The Channel Country has come alive.

You can trace the floodwaters, down through the Georgina River, Diamantina River, Cooper Creek and Eyre Creek catchments into South Australia, carrying nutrient rich water toward Kati Thanda–Lake Eyre.

The contrast is extraordinary. Wherever the water has travelled, the landscape glows green from space.

Those winding channels and floodplains are the main veins of the Lake Eyre Basin, a massive 1.2 million km² inland catchment stretching across Queensland, the Northern Territory, South Australia and New South Wales in some cases floodwater travelling well over 1000 km to reach the lake.

When the big floods arrive, the desert responds almost immediately. Grasslands burst to life, fish breed, birdlife gathers in huge numbers, and the outback transforms.

This image captures more than floodwater. It captures the journey of water through the heart of Australia, and the life left behind in its wake.

🌿ARID RECOVERY & KOKATHA OPEN DAY 🌿

Come along and spend the afternoon with us on Kokatha Country at the Arid Recovery Reserve!

🕑 2:00pm – 5:30pm
📍 Arid Recovery Reserve, near Roxby Downs

There’ll be plenty to see and do for all ages, including:
◾Andamooka Observatory
◾Art activities
◾Basket weaving
◾Bush food tasting
◾Damper making
◾Indigenous art gallery
◾Language workshops
◾Games, tours and more

Plus a barbecue to enjoy while you connect, learn and spend time together on Country.

This is a great chance to experience the important work happening at Arid Recovery and celebrate Kokatha culture with the community.
