Shoutout to Chris for always making me push this thing further than what it probably should go on 98 😅. We don't have easy access to E85 out here, and everyone reckons big power and pump fuel don't belong together on a Barra... but here you go 😎
This combo is one of Chris' 800hp packages that we've been fitting to plenty of cars lately. It consists of Spool rods, cast pistons, upgraded valve springs, ACL main and big-end bearings, Boundary pump gears and backing plate, along with the usual bolt-ons including a PSR Gen 3 3584, big free-flowing exhaust, 40NB 6-into-1 manifold, and the good old Kelford 218-B camshafts.
Once we got into the tuning, Chris' goal was simple — 30psi with absolutely no remorse 😂. In the end, I gave it everything I was comfortable with on 98 and landed at 28psi at 4000rpm, tapering to 24psi by 7000rpm.
We spent the day testing boost and timing combinations, doing around 30 dyno pulls, many of them back-to-back. The best result was 550rwkw and 1130Nm, with all the boost fed in by 4000rpm.
We knew we were well into the territory where things can go wrong quickly, but that's exactly why we wanted to test it. After plenty of monitoring, tuning via my own knock detection setup, and a final spark plug read that I'm happy with, this is where it landed 👌
My counter argument to anyone is to go and put 28psi into one @ 4000rpm and see what it does, it’s quite impressive
Hopefully in a few months we can revisit it with a G40 hanging off the side and see just how far we can really push it 😈
Keep your eyes peeled 👀
