Two years ago today, I registered IMS Solutions Group.

Looking back, what’s been built over that time goes far beyond systems, standards, or certification milestones. It’s been about finding ways to support businesses that feels honest, practical, and sustainable, for them and for me.

Simplifying Compliance
Early on, it became clear that most businesses don’t struggle because they don’t care about compliance. They struggle because it feels over complicated, seen as a cost rather than a benefit, not well understood, and is often positioned as a box ticking requirement rather than something that actually helps the business.

Over the past two years, my focus has been on bringing clarity, helping businesses navigate compliance in a way that actually supports their operations, understand what actually matters, what’s genuinely required, and how to meet obligations without overwhelming their people or operations.

Strengthening Systems
Working with organisations at very different stages, some growing fast, some rebuilding, some just trying to regain control, reinforced one thing, strong systems must reflect how work really happens.

This work has pushed me into areas that weren’t originally in my wheelhouse, stretching my own capability and capacity as the business evolved. It’s meant learning, adjusting, and sometimes sitting with discomfort to ensure systems are fit for purpose, usable day to day, and resilient under pressure, not just compliant.

Delivering Results
The outcomes matter. Audits passed. Confidence restored. Risk reduced. Decision making improved.
But just as important have been the lessons along the way, about boundaries, pace, and knowing when to lean in and when to step back. About insisting that systems must work in real life, even when that’s harder than following a template.

To every client who has trusted me with your systems, your teams, and your decisions, thank you. Your openness, your honesty about what’s not working, and your commitment to doing things properly, not perfectly, is what gives this work meaning.

And to those who’ve supported the journey quietly through referrals, conversations, and encouragement, it hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Two years in and IMS Solutions Group represents more than a business. It’s the result of consistent hard work paying off, clearer direction, confidence in capability, and the freedom to make considered choices about how and where I work.

The business is clear in its purpose, grounded in experience, and focused on delivering work that stands up in practice and supports real decisions, risks, and outcomes.

I’m proud of what’s been built so far, and thoughtful about where it’s heading next.

When systems are working properly, they add clarity and confidence, not pressure.

Compliance becomes stressful when systems don’t reflect reality, reviews are skipped, or roles aren’t clear.

Well embedded systems support decision making and protect the business, instead of feeling like an extra burden.

Audit findings don’t mean a business is failing. They show where systems aren’t quite keeping pace with the actual operations of the business.

Used properly, findings guide improvement, strengthen controls, and reduce future risk.

The real issue isn’t findings, it’s when they’re repeated because nothing meaningfully changes afterward.

If audits feel exhausting every year, that’s usually a sign the system is relying too heavily on a few people instead of supporting the business as a whole.

Under resourced IMS roles, unclear responsibilities, and reactive document updates create unnecessary pressure.

Well designed systems spread the load, make reviews routine, and turn audits into checkpoints, not fire drills.

Growth exposes system weaknesses quickly.

As businesses take on more work, more people, and more risk, informal ways of working become more evident.

Integrated management systems provide the structure needed to grow with control, consistency, and confidence.

Regulators and auditors are focused on evidence, not good intentions.

It’s no longer enough to say “we take this seriously.” Businesses are expected to show how risks are identified, controlled, reviewed, and improved over time.

Strong systems produce evidence as a by product of normal operations. Weak systems rely on last minute scrambling.

Systems that rely on a single IMS manager, administrator, or champion carry greater risk.

When knowledge isn’t shared and responsibilities aren’t clear, continuity suffers, particularly during leave, turnover, or periods of growth.

It also creates a practical issue, if one person owns and runs the system, they can’t independently audit it. Auditing a system you’re directly responsible for isn’t objective and creates a clear conflict of interest.

Strong systems are understood across the business, supported by shared ownership, and structured so reviews and audits can be done objectively.

Resilient systems don’t depend on one person holding everything together.

Contractor and subcontractor risks are a major focus area and rightly so.

Many systems look solid internally but fall apart when contractor management is tested. Inductions drift, responsibilities blur, and oversight weakens over time.

Effective systems extend beyond your direct workforce and are designed to manage risk wherever work is happening.

Adding documents rarely fixes a broken system.

What makes the difference is clarity, clear responsibilities, practical controls, and documents that reflect how work actually gets done.

When systems are over documented but under used, risk increases rather than reduces. Simple, usable systems outperform complex ones every time.
