Tracking your numbers is my absolute favourite part of business!!

The reality...... if you’re not tracking it, you can’t control it.

And when you can’t control it, you’re making emotional decisions instead of logical ones. That’s exhausting, and it keeps you tired!

But when you know your numbers? Everything changes:
✅ You can see exactly what’s happening in your business
✅ You know what needs to shift..... no guessing
✅ You make decisions with confidence, not stress
✅ You feel in control of where you’re heading

And honestly? It’s fun once you get into it. Gamify your business. Make it a game. Watch your numbers move in the right direction and back yourself like the brilliant leader you are.

You don’t need to be an accountant. You just need a system that makes it simple ....and anyone can create that.

We are often more comfortable proving ourselves RIGHT… than we are allowing ourselves to be HAPPY.

Confronting, isn’t it?

Our brains are wired to keep us safe. They’re constantly looking for evidence to validate our thoughts, beliefs, and fears.

And this shows up in business all the time.

👉 “I knew I was going to lose that quote.”
So when you do, you prove yourself right.

👉 “The team always stuffs things up.”
So you micromanage, and when a mistake happens, you prove yourself right.

👉 “I’ll never crack into that market.”
One rejection becomes confirmation that you’re not capable.

See the pattern?

We’re constantly searching for proof to support the story we already believe.

The problem is, those stories often keep us small. They help us avoid rejection, discomfort, failure, and judgment—but they also stop us from growing.

Growth requires courage.
It requires putting yourself out there.
It requires being willing to learn.

And most of what we call failure is actually feedback.

When I first learned about rejection sensitivity, so much clicked for me. I realised how much energy I’d spent trying to avoid rejection.

But once I worked through that, I discovered something powerful:

I’m okay with learning.
I’m okay with things not working out.
And I’m okay with not being for everyone.

Because the right people, opportunities, and clients will find me.

Now, instead of asking,
“See, I knew I couldn’t do that…”

I ask,
“What can I learn from this?”
“What’s the opportunity here?”

Because happiness exists on the other side of courage.

So here’s a question for you:

Where are you proving yourself right instead of allowing yourself to grow? 💥

There can be a huge gap between people’s definitions of situations, tasks, standards, and values… and THAT is what causes so much frustration in businesses, relationships, and leadership.

Because the gap… is where the resentment sits.

Let me explain.....

An employee might say, “I’m working really hard.”
But their definition of working hard could be completely different to yours. And most of the time, it WILL be different......because they’re an employee, not the employer. The mindset and level of responsibility are different.

Or it could be something as simple as:
“I kept the site really clean.”
But your definition of a clean site might look completely different to theirs.

This happens everywhere......in business, on job sites, at home, and in relationships.

If there’s a gap in the definition of the expectation, then we’re not actually on the same page.

And that’s when the frustration starts.

You begin thinking:
“They’re not working hard.”
“They’re not keeping the site clean.”
“They’re always late.”

The reality is… there may never have been clarity around what those things actually mean to you.

This is why leadership communication matters so much.

Instead of assuming people understand your standards, we need to bridge the gap through open conversations.
✔️ “What does clean look like to you?”
✔️ “Here’s the standard I’m expecting.”
✔️ “Arriving on time to me means arriving 5–10 minutes early so you’re ready to go at 7.”

Clarity removes confusion.
Communication closes the gap.

And when we close the gap, we remove so much of the resentment, frustration, and tension that businesses and relationships carry.

Leadership isn’t about expecting people to read your mind.

It’s about clearly communicating the standard, creating alignment, and helping people succeed.

Because sometimes there IS a gap… and that’s okay.
We just need to work together to find the solution in the middle. 💥

We’re coming into the end of financial year, which gives us such a powerful opportunity to stop and really ask ourselves…

What do we actually want the next financial year to look like?

Because planning is so much more than numbers on a spreadsheet.

It gives your business structure.
It gives you clarity.
It gives you direction.
It gives you confidence in decision making.
So many business owners are operating without defining what success actually looks like.

But if you don’t know:
✔️ What you want in your pocket at the end of the year
✔️ What revenue you need to hit
✔️ What type of work aligns
✔️ What life you’re trying to create
…then every decision becomes reactive.

This is why I work through yearly, quarterly and 3-year planning with clients.

Because once you reverse engineer the numbers and understand your financially sustainable model, you stop chasing busy for the sake of busy.

You become intentional.
You lead with clarity.
And business feels a whole lot lighter.

EOFY planning isn’t just about business growth.

It’s about creating the life you actually want alongside it.

Quick tip when calculating your break-even…..

Please make sure you are accounting for:
✔️ Tax
✔️ Drawings
✔️ Loan repayments
Because this is where I see SO many businesses come unstuck.

And if I’m truly honest… it’s one of the things that frustrates me most about the way Profit & Loss reports are set up in accounting software.

So many business owners look at their P&L and think: “We’re making good money… so where the hell is it?”
Because the P&L can show a healthy profit number…
BUT after that:
❌ Tax still has to come out
❌ Drawings still have to come out
❌ Loan repayments still have to come out

And a lot of the time, those sit on the balance sheet...... not directly on your P&L.

So if you’re calculating your break-even or your charge-out rates without including those numbers, you’re not actually calculating what the business truly needs to survive and support your life.

That’s why so many business owners feel like:
They’re spinning on the hamster wheel
There’s never enough cash in the bank
They’re working hard but getting nowhere

You need to understand:
✔️ What’s coming into your pocket after EVERYTHING
✔️ What your business actually needs each month
✔️ What financially sustainable really looks like

Because clarity around your numbers changes everything.

I’ve just returned from a five-day retreat with the incredible .tier diving deep into what’s often unseen in business.

What I’ve learnt over the last few years is…….
You can have the strategy.
You can know your numbers inside out.
You can be doing “all the right things.”

But there’s still another layer.

The hidden patterns.
The blind spots.
The beliefs and behaviours quietly shaping the way we lead, decide, grow, and hold ourselves back.

And it’s when we’re willing to remove the cover… to look at what’s sitting underneath… that we create the capacity for the next level in business and life.

I’m incredibly grateful for the experience, the amazing company, nourishing food, beautiful scenery, and the vitality that the beach and surrounds gave me to slow down, reflect, learn, and grow.

Every layer uncovered creates more space for impact.
More space to lead.

One of my clients had a massive lightbulb moment this week…

“Wait… I can do another million dollars in revenue and still make basically no extra profit?!”

YES. Exactly.
