Continuous improvement and 1% changes are the core of high performance. How can you incorporate compound interest strategies to grow your organisation?

How we apply ourselves on a daily basis to different contexts makes a massive difference.

What are you currently doing to adapt to the different environments and personalities you encounter?

Death by meetings we call it.

Use these three principles from Richard Branson to liven up the engagement in meetings and ensure that all time is put to good use!

"I'm quite promiscuous with my fuel consumption"

How are you approaching your relationships? With a Partnering Mindset or a Vendor Mindset.

As a leader of a team you should be bringing a partnering approach to collaboration.

What are the implications of being a perfectionist in a VUCA world?

12/12/2023

Last week I was leading a Program with a highly trained team of SME’s operating in a very uncertain and volatile landscape.

The challenge was to be more adaptive and resilient in the face of continued disruption. Stop working the silos and be more collaborative across the silos. Easier said than done!

I saw the senior leader especially being 100% open and vulnerable in making a statement of total support to the team - ‘I’ve got your back if things go wrong and we are in this together.’

What happened then was the team's mood changed, becoming more engaged, relaxed, and open to trying new things.

So if you are a leader bemoaning the lack of cohesion and adaptability in your team make sure you have told your team how much you trust them and that you’ve got their back!

Sustainable High Performance Starts with Being Stressless Everyday

Stressless leadership is at the core of Peak Performance. What does this really mean? How do I do this with competing work and personal demands? The truth is there is no perfect answer.

Only an imperfect solution that is unique to you. But we do know the areas that we need to go into to start living in a more physical, emotional, spiritual, and healthy way to show up for life as well as leadership

But the challenge is that trying to fit it all in causes me more or as much stress as not doing it! For example, I read about the idea of a morning routine during the pandemic so I created my routine board for when I got up in the morning but if I missed it or couldn’t fit it in I became disappointed.

My critical inner voice went into overdrive with negative thoughts. This downward cycle then affected my motivation in other parts of my life like sleep, diet, exercise, and my leadership in work so there was a ripple effect.

So my insight from the last couple of years is to set goals and routines, try them, and test them but don't expect to be perfect.

Peak Performance is more about showing up every day, making progress but encouraging yourself and not letting your inner critic dominate your thoughts.

This will reduce your stress levels and enable you to make the progress you want in those areas of physical, emotional, spiritual, and healthy parts of your life whilst improving your leadership at the same time.

Embrace your imperfection and don't let unrealistic expectations of yourself and others stress you out!

How do you build your self-awareness and reputation in your leadership?

If you think about it there are 3 perspectives that can impact our self-awareness and reputation.

1. Who do we think we are?
2. Who do others think we are?
3. The person we believe others think we are?

So how do we make sense of these different perspectives and combine them to be the best we can be?

Firstly, it all starts with our mindset about accepting our imperfections, openness to feedback, and valuing others' opinions even if we disagree with them.

Secondly, the ultra self-aware leader is ‘feedback savvy’ continually seeking and gaining feedback from stakeholders on their impact and style.

Thirdly, making time to reflect, learn, and adapt closes the loop to be able to sort through the feedback act on the ‘golden nuggets’, and then review progress.

Health Warning!
Beware the C-suite bubble!

Without the right feedback loops leaders sometimes get told what they want to hear and not what is actually real. So it pays to get your feedback from multiple sources at different levels within the organisation.
