The community we are part of inevitably shapes us. It influences what we consider normal, possible, valuable and worth pursuing. But community is not just something we inherit or consume; it's something we continuously produce.

Every contribution of time, attention, knowledge, care, creativity, money, opportunity or participation becomes part of the environment that others experience. In this sense, there is a reciprocal relationship. Our community invests in who we become, and what we invest determines what our community can become.

If we want communities that are healthier, more ethical, innovative, connected and capable of flourishing, we cannot only ask what they provide for us. We must also ask what are we contributing to the conditions in which all of us are developing?

Ultivate Company is growing—and it feels very special to recognise just how far we have come.

What began almost ten years ago as a psychological health initiative officially became Ultivate Pty Ltd in July of last year. A year since the quiet company launch, our Protégé Team has grown, bringing new energy, ideas, curiosity and heart into the company.

At Ultivate, we believe humans are wired to flourish. That belief has shaped Ultivate into something of a living experimental lab: a place where psychological science, creativity, strategy and human nature can come together in meaningful ways.

We do not see our interns as people who are simply here to learn from us. We are also here to learn from them, from their fresh perspectives, emerging expertise, openness and willingness to contribute to projects that are bigger than any one of us.

Over the next season, this team will help bring to life a new generation of Ultivate Psychological Health experiences. We are so excited for you to meet the people behind the work and to see what we are creating together.

Watch this space as we introduce each member of our team over the coming weeks.

Today’s hackathon gave us the annual strategy for our newest initiative, The Flourishing Professional Suite. ✨

This smiling team is here to support your professional growth, psychological health and flourishing.

From a behavioural, cognitive, interpersonal, and ecological science perspective, it's argued that human flourishing can begin to happen more naturally as we make space for value-aligned actions, ideas, enriched environments, and relationships that have our best interests at heart.

It's like we are neurobiologically wired for flourishing under certain conditions!

Imagine expecting a flower to bloom in the absence of a nourished, sunny garden and the company of well-matched, blooming flowers 🌼

We may not want to see ourselves as a type of flower with an innate desire to bloom. However, the metaphor really drives home the idea.

We are often so fixated on producing a better feeling or outcome that we forget the conditions we find ourselves in really matter.

"Researchers at Harvard created the Flourish Model for school wellbeing (Ellyat, 2022). The Flourish Model builds off of Barrett's Seven Levels of Consciousness model, Maslow's hierarchy of needs and systems science to describe flourishing "as a dynamic and highly interconnected process, between the self, others, and the natural world" (Ellyat, 2022, p.5). The Flourish Model's seven aspects of flourishing are depicted in the two following models (Ellyat, 2022, Figures 2 and 3), seen in the image".

Important to say that although this generalisable model is great. For clinicians working with neurodivergent professionals and leaders, an investigative, tailored needs approach should be especially explored, as their drivers are quite different from those of the general population.

Going over the notes this morning from last night’s focus-group dinner, in preparation for Psychologist Andy Solange’s presentation at the Annual Gold Coast Conference on neurodivergence in the law, three ideas are clear.

The dinner brought together a dynamic group of professionals — such as Anna Morgan from, Casandra Laurie, Ben Hook, Natasha Hynes and Thierry Peynot — for a rich conversation on professional life, neurodivergence, leadership, cognitive difference and human flourishing.

Keeping up with the IQ levels, speed of thought-processing and depth of insight around the table was, in itself, a meaningful challenge for Ultivate’s founder and psychologist, Andy Solange

And perhaps that was the point. When highly capable minds gather, difference is not a problem to be managed. It becomes a resource to be understood, valued and cultivated.

At Ultivate, three ideas continue to guide this work.

🌼 Different does not have to mean deficient.

Many of the qualities we value most in professionals — deep expertise, pattern recognition, creativity, systems thinking, persistence and a strong sense of justice — can emerge from minds that think differently.

🌼 Humans are wired to flourish in their own way under the right conditions.

Too often, a pathology-focused approach asks, “What is wrong with me?”

A more useful and humane question may be, “What conditions would help me flourish?”

🌼 The modern goal is not merely to succeed in our professions.

The next frontier of professional development is learning how to flourish within our professions — not at the expense of humanity, health, family, values or the nervous system.

These ideas apply not only to law, but also to medicine, education, finance, psychology, research, technology, enterprise development and the pillar industries that help flourishing societies function well.

As professionals, many spend years developing advanced competence, carrying responsibility and serving others. But competence without the conditions for flourishing can become costly.

What might become possible for our clients, communities, organisations and professions if we created space for human flourishing, not just performance?

Sending warm wishes from a chilly and rainy Gold Coast morning as we prepare to contribute to this important conversation at the Queensland Law Society Annual Gold Coast Conference.

This lecture will be dynamic and practical. Those attending will walk away with:

• A clearer understanding of how neurodivergence can show up in legal education, legal practice, leadership, teams and clients
• A way to distinguish between performance issues, health and cognitive differences
• Practical language for discussing neurodivergence without stigma or over-pathologising
• A vision for how the legal profession can protect ethics and excellence while making room for diverse intellects

What do brain medicine, engineering, law, education, innovation, enterprise, health coaches and psychological health have to do with each other?

Everything!

That was the spirit of this year's Atlas Concierge Medicine Conference—an inspiring gathering of physicians, psychologists, engineers, entrepreneurs, educators, health coaches and leaders committed to creating en enriched and flourishing human health future.

It was a privilege to share Ultivate Psychological Health's vision for a prevention-focused psychology that extends beyond symptom management and toward human flourishing, psychological maturity, and enriched professional lives.

Flourishing societies depends on leadership and professions that work together, think boldly, and place human enrichment at the centre of innovation.

Thank you, Atlas Concierge Medicine, for bringing together such an extraordinary community of future-thinking minds. 🌼❤️

The purpose of this epic event was to showcase our Ultivate Psychological Health programs, assessments, and our vision to create an enriching and flourishment-based psychology that transcends mere symptom management in the region.

This new phase is the reason Ultivate Startup company was created. There is a lot of work before us, the demand is significant and the mental health crisis increasing. This is why we argue that a prevention-focused psychology is critical as we can no longer afford to keep catching profesionals down the stream of mental or physical distress.

Our troops are burning out.
Our most competent, intelligent, agreeable and compassionate professionals are suffering because they are carrying too much. This is because the tools and systems around them are not designed with their individual flourishment in mind.

However, burn out culture is out and it's being replaced by a flourishing model of human development. Human brains are wired to flourish and so is your nervous system! 🌼

This is why partnering with Medical Concierge has been so important. Working with an elite health team that has created the foundations of a medical model that walks across the life span of a patient, not just a symptom. Picking up patterns early and preventing dangerous outcomes.

However, the steadfast focus this year is cultivating our organisational systems, our leadership team and slowly making a flourishing psychology at Ultivate more accessible to professionals, leaders, innovators, teams, startups and the general public.

We hope you can join on this venture by following our socials and engaging in our journey to enrich the profesional, intellectual and social experiences of our region ❤️

A recent consulting conversation with Jorge Acevedo Pallares, sustainability development expert and one of Ultivate’s most trusted and valued multidisciplinary advisors, stayed with me.

He shared something striking about the old red oak tree. The oak does not try to grow endlessly. It grows according to its nature, its conditions, and its pace. First roots, then height. First structure, then expansion. Its strength comes not from forcing growth, but from growing well.

I believe the same is true for professionals, teams, and enterprises.

Too many people are being asked to grow beyond their mental maturity. Too many teams are being stretched beyond their psychological and relational capacity. And too many enterprises confuse fast growth with healthy growth.
The cost is real burnout, loss of meaning, conflict, exhaustion, disconnection, high turnover and people who look functional on the outside while depleting on the inside.

If we want to respond to the psychological crisis of modern work, then our vocations must be built to enrich us, not drain us. Our workspaces must develop the human being, not just stakeholder interests. And start-up growth must be sustainable for the people and teams carrying it.

Healthy growth is not limitless.

Healthy growth is rooted, mature, and sustainable. Like the oak, the goal is not to grow without end. The goal is to grow well, so that in doing so, we enrich the ecosystems we belong to.
