Artefacts need to be large enough for preparation and dating to be possible. In general, larger artefacts are better. The smallest that an artefact can be and still allow sample preparation are at least:
• 40 mm long
• 30 mm wide
• 20 mm thick

This is a minimum size. Larger clasts are preferred.

At Vicus, we analyse sediment samples from a range of depositional environments and archaeological contexts. These include rock shelter, slope, river, coastal, dune, lake and glacial deposits.

Measurement and analysis can be conducted at the multi-grain aliquot or single-grain level. High-resolution, single-grain luminescence ages can be generated for Australian sites in eight weeks. International samples may take longer.
