Jeff is now confidently teaching trios and groups of 4 in his guitar teaching business.

With a repeatable framework that is clear, easy and actually gets results for his students - even if the group has mixed skill levels.

But 3 months ago, his guitar teaching business looked very different.

Jeff had dabbled in teaching group lessons every now and again but always found them chaotic and frustrating.

And he had believed that group lessons were relatively ineffective and only for beginners.

He was teaching 1-1 lessons as an instrumental teacher in schools while also teaching private students after his regular day-job.

Pretty busy schedule but still worried about money.

Jeff also has a passion project on the side so he wanted to have more time to focus on that.

Firstly we had to identify the main problems in his business:

- Capped income from teaching 1-1, only way to earn more was to add more teaching time to his schedule
- A decent amount of students but no time to focus on hobbies or extra passion projects
- Cancelling students had to book in make up lessons (good) BUT make up lessons every week added MORE working hours to his schedule
- Eating 2 minute noodles over the Australian school holidays because he his payment system worked on a per lesson basis and there were no lessons scheduled over the holidays
- No clear way to balance mixed skill levels in a group setting without hours and hours of extra lesson planning
- Struggling to sign up new students every month because he had no advertising system bringing in students on autopilot

Here's a breakdown of how I helped Jeff earn more, work less using one of my programs for guitar teachers.

Teaching System:
- Jeff watched the step-by-step tutorials on how I teach chords, picking/lead guitar and fingerpicking to groups of mixed skill level students
- Downloaded the structured lesson plan templates, song arrangements and structured group lesson activities to keep students progressing well
- Learned about running different class types that tie in with the make up lesson system and make sure it's not taking up extra time in his schedule

Studio Mastery System:
- Implemented a make up lesson system in which students book into other classes instead of scheduling 1-1 make up lessons
- Implemented a Student Sign Up Process to convert 99% of the trial lessons into paying students
- Used a digital registration page with an electronic Studio policy that explains payment system, make up lesson system, etc.
- Structured his studio policy in a fair way that gets him paid over the school holidays

Student Acquisition System:

- Created a full website for him using the Squarespace template that is proven to turn website visitors into student enquiries
- Redesigned his Brand name, logo, colours and identity to resonate with his target audience
- Optimised his Google Business Profile to rank high on Google and bring in new students on autopilot (Reviews, photos, etc.)

That's all he needed to bring in more students for his lessons (no paid ads needed).

Jeff chose not to rent his own hourly rental teaching space but he's installed this business model at a school that he was teaching at so he earns more and works less.

It's obvious that Jeff cares deeply about the quality of his lessons and didn't want to compromise that.

After 3 months of going through the program, he can teach high-quality group lessons while having so much more time and financial stability.

Love working with Jeff!

Btw, this program is for established guitar teachers who are sick of long hours teaching 1-1 and want to earn a full-time wage but work part-time (without compromising on lesson quality for their students).

Send me a message if you want to do something like Jeff.

Have fun teaching!

"I want to play G.O.A.T. by Polyphia today"

"Sure...you said you were a beginner though right?"

"Yeah I've looked at some YouTube tutorials on it but can't seem to master it"

These are some of the lovely comments that I get on my Instagram. 😂

It's definitely not nice and I'm not excusing it but I do totally understand why people are skeptical of online programs.

There is so much nonsense online that promises you the world and delivers nothing.

They get you to buy a 'high ticket course' that will solve all your problems but once you buy, there's no effort to help you succeed.

Their job is done - they sold you the course and now you have to work through it and figure it out for yourselves.

In addition to that, I see people creating a course that promises a particular outcome but they've never actually been able to achieve it themselves!

I've built my guitar school, earn a great living and absolutely love what I do.

And in my spare time when I'm not teaching, I help guitar teachers avoid all the mistakes that I made along my guitar teaching journey.

I chose to launch this community and membership (rather than a high-ticket course) so I had control over the results that my program gets teachers.

There's always perceived problems or hurdles that get in the way - and it's my job to help them overcome those obstacles every week.

And on top of the fulfilment that I get through teaching students the lifelong hobby of playing guitar...

I get an unbelievable amount of satisfaction helping guitar teachers grow a stable and financially predictable guitar teaching business. :)

Parents and students don't choose one-to-one lessons because they studied music teaching.

They choose them because it's what they know and what they've been told is higher quality and will get them results.

When they see the buzz words 'group lessons' on your website, they imagine:

- Big classes
- No personal help
- Might be fun but slow progress

That's why putting "Group lesson program" on your website often doesn't work.

To sign up students for my own guitar school, I don't fight this.

I don't try to explain group lessons on my website.

I don't ask parents to choose between lesson types.

I do something way simpler.

I talk about the results and major benefits that my unique guitar program has received.

I show:
- Students making progress
- Students actually sticking with lessons long-term
- Great reviews from people I've helped before

In the trial lesson, parents and students can see I know what I'm doing.

Once that trust is there, parents stop asking: "what kind of lesson is this?"

They start thinking: "This teacher gets results for his students and his students absolutely love guitar and stick with it long term"

At that point, whether it's a trio or a group - it doesn't matter anymore.

That's why I fill up $200/month groups with basically no pushback at all.

If they do, I just say try it out for one month and quit if you don't see progress.

I know it sounds super weird but it works for me and other guitar teachers that I've worked with.

When I first started teaching, I thought that if I was a great teacher and got unbelievable results for my students, I would be able to go full-time with teaching.

Word of mouth referrals would quickly spread throughout my local community resulting in new students every month.

I'd post a couple times on my page with my lesson prices and people would enquire about my amazing guitar lessons.

Just because I was a good teacher.

However, I quickly worked out that running a guitar teaching business is a little bit more than just being a good teacher.

You can be the greatest teacher in the world but if no one knows about your business OR you don't communicate how you will help potential students to achieve their guitar learning goals...

It'll be very hard to earn a steady income from guitar teaching.

It's not about hustling or selling your soul to get new students.

But you just need to know the right strategy and why it works.

I still get word of mouth referrals but thing is - I don't rely on them.

Instead, I use 2 types of advertising:

Autopilot System:
- I set up and optimise this free system ONCE and let it bring in new students every month (e.g. Google Business Profile, Website SEO, High-Converting Landing Page, Directories)

Boost System:
- Easy free or low cost ways to get new students fast when I want an influx of students (Viral Community Group Ad templates, $7 Facebook Ad system, Interactive Market stall, etc.)

When us musicians hear 'advertise your business' we think of:

"20% off, limited time only - only 1 spot left! Get in quick" or creating some cringe Tik Tok video talking about achieving your dreams on the guitar.

But I don't have to do ANY of that sh** to get new students enquiring every single month.

Comment 'STUDENTS' if you're looking to fill out your 2026 schedule with awesome guitar students using easy, free or low cost strategies and I'll show you how it works.

When I was first growing my guitar teaching business, I wanted to know every tip and hack under the sun to get more students.

And although those are helpful (some are a waste of time) I actually really needed something else..

I needed a clear step-by-step map of what I needed to do each week to grow and eventually live off my teaching income.

I needed clarity.

I knew where I wanted to go but just didn't know how to get there.

Now I help guitar teachers do exactly that, without the painful trial and error I went through.

If you want clarity and a real path to living off your teaching income, comment 'STEPS'.

I'll ask you a few questions and see if I can help you get more students, earn more per hour and automate your business.

I used to think that if I just posted consistently on my socials, I would get guitar students.

I would spend HOURS creating social media calendars full of 'Did you know' tips, and 'Guess that song' posts.

It would sometimes result in a few low-quality leads.

But I wanted a steady stream of new students without so much work.

Firstly, I discovered some way better free marketing strategies that took me 10 mins to do an actually brought in new students, which was awesome (strategies that I help guitar teachers implement now).

But there came a point where I was like 'I want a bunch of new students now' to really fill out my schedule and make teaching my sole income.

I found out that when I had run Facebook and Google Ads before, I was making some super simple and fixable mistakes.

I had wasted money before and it wasn't because 'Facebook Ads are dead' or 'The economy is terrible'.

It was just because I was doing the wrong things.

Even after learning about the right way to run ads, I was still really hesitant.

But ultimately, it was a change in my mindset that has totally changed my perspective on ads.

If you sell a one-time product like a candle or a shirt, it can be very hard to make ads profitable.

BUT once guitar students sign up, they continue to pay for our service (if you're actually getting them results).

So even if I had to pay $60 to sign up one high quality student and they stay on for even just 1 month, (my students stay for at least a year) it was worth it.

Btw in my own guitar school, I sign up students for $15 on average so don't let that number scare you.

You've just got to make sure that you are doing the right things and have the right mindset.

You don't have to run ads but if you want to get to your income goal FAST, they can really help.

What's the fear that keeps guitar teachers from going full-time with teaching?

It's the fear of spending money without an immediate, guaranteed results.

For most teachers, losing $15 on ads feels far more dangerous than losing hours every week to unpaid work.

You can see that ad spend leaving your account. If nothing happens right away, if feels like a mistake.

So when a teacher runs ads for a few days, doesn't immediately sign up a student, and shuts them off - the conclusion is that it's not worth it.

I totally get it because I had the same mindset.

At the same time, a lot of guitar teachers will spend hours posting on social media, giving away advice without it resulting in new students (or very little).

It's because time loss is invisible.

Instead of putting hours into social media posts like "Learning guitar improves brain cognition" or "did you knows", you could have a steady stream of students coming in.

But this only works if you change your mindset about ads AND also see the clear math behind it.

When you look at ads through the wrong lens, $15 feels expensive.

When you look at them through the right lens, $15 can produce a 13x return in the first month and an 80x return over six months.

So I wanted to ask you...

What feels riskier to you?

Spending a little money or giving away hours every single week?

09/02/2026

I made this mistake when I was first building my guitar teaching business.

And the other day I received a message from a guitar teacher I worked with who had also made this mistake.

He initially got in contact with me last year wanting to get more students.

He had the goal of replacing his full-time job income with guitar teaching because he wanted to create a business around his passion.

I created his landing page, gave him some free advertising strategies and he went from only 1 student to 11!

I briefly told him about the mistake I had made when I was first guitar teaching:

I hustled to get as many 1-1 students as I could.
I filled out my schedule at around 30 students.
But I was absolutely exhausted and teaching until late into the night.
I had heard about group guitar lessons as a solution but thought:

1. My students get really good results from my 1-1 lessons - I don't want to compromise that with low-quality groups
2. I don't think anyone will sign up for group lessons if I tried it now

I had a full schedule but still wasn't earning enough to quit my part-time job.
So I had to work all day in my job and then go straight out to teaching and finish late.

I WISH I had stopped getting 1-1 students at the 5-10 student mark and put all new students straight into trios (now that I know how to teach trios effectively and how to sell them easily)

I didn't really hear from him for quite a few months.

A couple days ago he messaged me again saying his calendar was stacked up now.

He had continued to get 17 one-to-one students and is at capacity.

And now he's trying to figure out a way to transition his 1-1 students into groups but he's worried about how to sell the idea to parents as they're all used to learning in a 1-1 format.

And the reality is that students will always pick 1-1 because there's a stigma around group lessons (because guitar teachers don't know how to teach them correctly).

It is a lot harder and scarier to transition 1-1 students into groups (it's doable because I did it! but way scarier).

That's why I recommend - Get to that 5-10 student mark and PLEASE assess whether you either want to be:

1. Teaching long hours and eventually burnout while still not making enough to go full time

OR

2. Start a couple trios/groups, teach them using a repeatable framework so they actually get results and earn 3x-4x the amount per hour.

If you're curious about starting a couple trios/groups in your guitar teaching business but don't know how to teach them well or how to actually get people to sign up for them...

Comment 'TRIO' and I'll send you some videos on how I effectively teach and consistently fill my group lessons at my own guitar school.

Have fun teaching!
