Migration Agent. Marketing Agent. Same initials. Very different skill sets.

Apparently, we’re currently ranked #111 out of 129 migration agencies in Brisbane on one directory. Who knew? Certainly not us. 😅

We’ve been a little too busy preparing visa applications, responding to Department requests, working on appeals and solving complicated migration problems to keep track of our internet rankings.

So, thanks Hassan for the reminder that perhaps our marketing could use some attention.

But if you have to choose, we’d rather be better at migration than marketing.

We received an email clearly written by ChatGPT.
It asked all the right questions and demonstrated exactly why AI can't replace professional migration advice.
The email was polished, detailed and impressive. It asked about ANZSCO codes, points, state nomination, Engineers Australia, CDRs, EOIs and visa applications.

There was just one problem:
Nobody had established that the person was actually eligible for any of it.

That's one of the dangers of AI in migration matters. Give ChatGPT a premise and it can build an extremely convincing response around it even when the premise itself hasn't been tested.
Having eight years' employment doesn't automatically mean you can claim eight years of skilled employment points.
Having an engineering degree doesn't automatically mean you need a CDR.
Having 85 points on your own calculation doesn't mean you can legally claim 85 points.
And seeing your occupation on a state list doesn't mean you're eligible for nomination.
Facts and assumptions are not the same thing.

There was another issue.
The email asked us to explain which occupation, visa, state pathway and skills assessment strategy we would recommend before booking a consultation.
But that's not simply asking what services we provide.
That's asking for migration advice.
An RMA has professional and ethical obligations. Providing definitive individual advice without properly assessing someone's circumstances isn't responsible practice.

Then there was the request for our MARN.
You absolutely should verify your migration agent, but MARNs are publicly available on the Migration Agents Registration Authority's register. Checking it yourself is genuine due diligence.

AI can be incredibly useful.
Use it to organise your questions, employment history and documents.
But be careful when it moves from organising facts to creating conclusions.
AI can help you ask better questions.
Professional advice determines which questions actually matter.

Just because you ask ChatGPT to make you look like Brad Pitt...
doesn't mean you suddenly are Brad Pitt.

The same goes for Partner visa evidence.

More documents don't automatically make your application stronger.

📷 600 photos.

📱 8,000 WhatsApp messages.

📄 Dozens of statutory declarations.

If they don't add anything new to your story, they're just... more pages.

The Department isn't counting documents.

They're asking one question:

"Does this evidence show a genuine and continuing relationship?"

A clear, organised story will almost always outperform hundreds of pages of repetitive evidence.

Quality beats quantity. Every time.

One more tip, don't ask AI to write your relationship statements for you.

Migration decision-makers read thousands of Partner visa applications every year. Generic wording, clichés, and AI-style writing are often easy to spot.

Use AI to help organise your thoughts or improve grammar, but make sure your statement sounds like you. Authenticity is far more convincing than perfection.

One of the biggest myths about Australian Partner Visas?

That you need the "perfect" relationship.

❌ Together for 10+ years
❌ Joint bank accounts from day one
❌ Thousands of photos
❌ Married with children

The Department of Home Affairs isn't looking for a relationship that ticks every box.

They're looking for one that's genuine and continuing.

Every relationship is different.

Some couples:
• Live apart because of work
• Keep separate finances
• Have children early
• Spend months apart due to overseas travel

The real question isn't:

"Do you have enough evidence?"

It's:

"Does your evidence tell a believable story?"

That's often the difference between a strong application and one that raises questions.

Not sure if you have the right evidence? We are here to help.

Still struggling to fill your roster?

If you’ve been advertising for chefs, cooks, café managers, restaurant managers or experienced hospitality staff with little success, you’re certainly not alone.

Many Australian hospitality businesses continue to face ongoing labour shortages, particularly when it comes to finding experienced, reliable staff who are committed for the long term.

For many employers, sponsoring skilled overseas workers has become an important part of their workforce planning, not as a last resort, but as a practical strategy to maintain service levels and support business growth.

Whether you’re looking to recruit from overseas or retain a valued employee already working for you, there may be sponsorship pathways available that can help.

At Unicons Migration, we work closely with hospitality businesses to:
✅ Assess your eligibility to sponsor workers
✅ Navigate sponsorship and visa requirements
✅ Assist with recruitment and labour market testing
✅ Transition existing staff to longer-term visas or permanent residency where appropriate
✅ Ensure compliance with current migration obligations

Every business is different, and the right solution depends on your circumstances. That’s why we take the time to understand your workforce needs before recommending a pathway.

📞 If staff shortages are affecting your business, let’s have a conversation about your options.

We often read that Registered Migration Agents and/or lawyers do nothing more than fill out forms and don’t care about you as a person. Mind you, the same is often said about many other professions, from travel agents to accountants.

This message was written, as you can see, at 4:11 am on a Sunday morning to a client whose Bridging Visa B (BVB) was in limbo. Their entire family was packed and ready to travel, facing the prospect of losing their airfares and missing an important family event. The previous correspondence was at 9:45 pm the night before when we lodged another request for urgent processing.

While there are certainly horror stories here and there, I genuinely believe that the vast majority of the roughly 5,000 Registered Migration Agents in Australia would bend over backwards to help their clients achieve the best possible outcome. I know I do.

If you need migration advice, choose a Registered Migration Agent rather than an unregistered WhatsApp cowboy who promises you the world and, more often than not, delivers none of it.

Everyone has an opinion on migration. But what if we’re asking the wrong question?

Australia isn’t facing a migration crisis. It’s facing a skills shortage.

When skilled tradespeople can often earn significantly more by changing industries, it’s no surprise many businesses are struggling to recruit and retain staff.

The result?
• Projects delayed.
• Restaurants reducing trading hours.
• Workshops turning away work.
• Employers competing for an increasingly smaller pool of skilled workers.

Skilled migration isn’t about replacing Australian workers, it’s about helping businesses fill vacancies they simply can’t fill locally, while Australia continues to train the workforce of the future.

The data tells a story that’s often missing from the headlines.

What do you think is the bigger issue: migration, or Australia’s growing skills shortage?

Let’s keep the discussion respectful and based on facts.
