Kagan Sakir was a special guest at our Melbourne Talent Table. After jumping on a plane to head to Brisbane to attend one of our Talent Tables he convinced me to host one in Melbourne and it didn't disappoint. Here is what he had to say:

"I walked into the Melbourne Talent Table thinking I was there to network.

I walked out feeling like myself again.

The last few weeks haven't been the easiest. Like many of us, there's been a lot of pressures and plenty of questions around it.

Friday was different.

I found myself opening up about what had been going on behind the scenes. Something I don't normally do.

And honestly, it felt REALLY good.

Not because anyone had all the answers.

But because for a couple of hours, I stopped pretending everything was fine.

That's what made the Talent Table different.

What an incredible day.

It wasn’t without its challenges (thanks Qantas for the cancelled flight and my missing bag!), but our very first Talent Table absolutely delivered.

I’ll be honest, bringing the Talent Table to a new state where I didn’t have my usual network felt like a real leap. But I’m so glad I took it. A huge thank you to Kagan Sakir for giving me the nudge and saying, “You have to bring this to Melbourne.” I’m so glad I listened.

What made today special wasn’t just the calibre of people in the room; it was the quality of the conversations. Leaders were willing to be , share what was really happening in their businesses, and generously offer their own and in return. Those are the that create genuine and leave everyone walking away with fresh ideas, new perspectives and practical support.

If I’m honest, I felt like a participant at my own event. I spent much of the afternoon listening, learning and taking in the incredible insights from everyone around the table.

To everyone who joined us today, thank you for trusting the process, showing up so openly and contributing to such a special afternoon. You made our first Melbourne Talent Table one to remember.

Melbourne, you’ve set the bar high. I can’t wait to do it all again.

Different industries. Different businesses. Same people challenges.

That pretty much sums up Friday’s Talent Table in Townsville.

We had a fantastic mix of business owners, leaders and professionals around the table. People leading teams, departments and organisations across a range of industries, yet many of the challenges they are facing are remarkably similar.

The conversation covered reputation, business , up, , , and the changing expectations of younger entering the workforce.

We discussed how process can sometimes get in the way of , systems that were meant to create but are doing the opposite and what it takes to step into bigger roles and truly own them.

One thing that stood out was that many of the wins being shared came back to culture. Leaders who are investing in their people and creating great workplaces are seeing the benefits.

What I love about these discussions is the opportunity to bring together people who may never otherwise meet, but who can learn so much from each other’s experiences. Different industries and different perspectives, but often very similar challenges.

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to the conversation and to Bridgewater Townsville for the amazing food, drinks and hospitality as always.
