Over 200 people in one venue celebrating the achievements of local businesses 🤯

A massive well done to everyone that entered, the application itself was a huge job, let alone the incredible work you are all doing within your businesses. As a judge, it was amazing to see how much magic you are all doing behind the scenes!

A huge congratulations to those that took out the categories, or received a highly commended, you should be bloody proud!

As always, Bunbury Geographe Chamber of Commerce and Industry you pulled of an incredible night, the vibes were high, the smiles were wide, and the drum rolls were impeccable!

Here's 5 reasons NOT to work with me.

I'm not the consultant who hands you a framework and disappears. I'm not interested in a tick and flick, and I am definitely not the gal that will tell you what you want to hear.

Being capable of doing everything doesn't mean you should do everything.

I used to be the person who would just jump in.
Someone needed something? Yep.
Something wasn't getting done? I'll do it.
Someone had a problem? I'll solve it.

Because it was easier if I just did it, rather than push back or ask for help.

Until it wasn't.

The plates kept spinning. The expectations kept growing. Everyone knew I would figure it out.
And eventually there was nothing left for me. Burnout has a funny way of showing you exactly where your boundaries should have
been.

I’ve learned that saying no isn't selfish.
Letting someone else solve their own problem isn't unhelpful.
And not being everything to everyone doesn't make you unreliable.

It makes you human.

Your capacity is not an unlimited resource.
Spend it accordingly.

Being liked is nice. Being respected is valuable.

I think a lot of leaders avoid the conversations they need to have because they don't want to be the “bad guy”.

So performance issues get brushed over. Poor behaviour gets tolerated. Standards become inconsistent.

Eventually, the people who are doing the right thing start wondering why the standard seems optional for everyone else.

Accountability doesn't have to mean humiliation, intimidation or pulling rank. There is usually a reason someone's standard has slipped.

Find out what it is. Listen. Get curious. Have the uncomfortable conversation. And then hold the standard.

The goal isn't for someone to walk away thinking, “My boss is a hard arse.”
It's for them to walk away feeling heard, treated fairly, clear on what's expected and capable of doing better.

That's leadership I can get behind.

Empathy is a strength. Until it starts costing you money.

I’ve been the business owner who gave too many chances.
The client who was late paying? I understood their circumstances.
The person who crossed a boundary? I understood what they were going through.
The extra work? “It’s fine, I’ll just do it.”

Except eventually, “understanding” starts looking a lot like absorbing the consequences of someone else’s behaviour.

You can understand someone’s circumstances and still hold them accountable.
You can care about someone and still say no.
You can have empathy and still have boundaries.

And sometimes the thing standing between you and the conversation you need to have isn't confidence.

It's having the words.

That’s a big part of the work I do with business owners and leaders, unpacking what’s getting in the way, finding the language that feels natural for them, practising the conversations and putting the structures in place so you don't keep ending up in the same situation.

Because empathy is great. But it doesn't pay your bills.

So apparently, making friends as an adult is a bit of a sh*tshow. 😂

We kept seeing posts like these.

“I’ve just moved to the South West and don’t know anyone.”

“Where do people go to meet new friends?”

“Looking for people to hang out with…”

“Anyone else new to the area?”

And we thought… well, there is a problem we can fix.

People want to meet people.
They just don’t necessarily want to walk into a bar alone and start interviewing strangers about their hobbies.

So we created the Social Pour Tour.

Being liked is often the result of making people feel comfortable in the moment. Being respected is earned by helping people grow beyond where they thought they could go.

Leaders don't build trust by avoiding difficult conversations. They build it by creating the conditions for learning, challenging assumptions, and holding people accountable in ways that strengthen capability rather than diminish confidence.

The most effective leaders are often both liked and respected. But when those two are in tension, choose respect. People may not always enjoy being challenged, but they remember and return to the leaders who consistently help them become better than they were before.
