Every stage of business growth demands a different strategic focus.

Business often make the mistake of applying the wrong priority to the stage they are in.

As your business moves through its lifecycle, what creates value changes.

→ Startup: The focus isn’t scale - it’s building a commercially viable engine. That means proving you can generate consistent gross margin, manage working capital, and create a repeatable path to revenue. Without that foundation, growth only magnifies instability.

→ Growth: The needle moves when the founder stops being the operating system. At this stage, enterprise value is built by formalising structure - strengthening leadership layers, clarifying accountability, investing in systems and governance. Growth that relies on one person caps valuation.

→ Maturity: Plateau often occurs when there is a strategic clarity problem, not necessarily always linked to revenue problems. This is where disciplined simplification drives value: focusing on the 20% of customers and products generating the majority of profit, removing complexity, and reallocating capital toward higher-return initiatives.

→ Decline or Rebirth: Here, preservation of value becomes the priority. Decisive cost reset, asset separation, balance sheet hygiene and clear capital allocation decisions determine whether the business can stabilise or reposition for a new growth curve.

Increasing enterprise value requires clarity on your current stage and the discipline to prioritise accordingly. Growth tactics applied at the wrong time create friction - stretching teams, compressing margins and adding complexity without strengthening the business.

At AS Consulting Partners, we help owners identify where they truly sit in the lifecycle and align strategy, operations and financial discipline to create real leverage. Because expansion, succession or exit are not events - they are the outcome of deliberate decisions made years in advance.

Australian businesses aren’t just expanding overseas, they’re building for global scale from day one.

A recent Sydney Morning Herald article highlights how Australian enterprises are embedding international capability into their operating models early, rather than treating global expansion as a later-stage move. Digital-first strategies, modern finance infrastructure and scalable systems are now foundational, not optional.

What we see at AS Consulting Partners is that this shift changes the nature of growth entirely. Scaling globally places immediate pressure on operating models, cash flow visibility, governance and ex*****on discipline - particularly across multiple currencies, markets and regulatory environments.

Businesses that succeed don’t rely on ambition alone. They invest early in structure, financial clarity and repeatable ex*****on so complexity doesn’t erode margins or distract leadership.

Global scale today is less about geography and more about readiness.

How Operational Efficiency Directly Increases Your Business Value

A recent Public Accountant article highlighted a pressing issue for Australian SMEs: we’re working harder than ever, yet productivity continues to lag.

From compliance drag to slow tech adoption and widening skills gaps, it’s all reducing the capacity owners have to create real enterprise value.

We see this every day with our clients. And the solution isn’t more hours, it’s stronger operational efficiency.

When businesses streamline processes leveraging AI, digitise admin, and build skilled, future-ready teams, three things happen:

• Profit per hour increases - less time wasted on non-value-adding tasks.

• EBITDA strengthens - predictable delivery and lower costs of doing business.

• Business risk decreases - making the company far more attractive to buyers and investors.

Operational efficiency isn’t just a productivity play.

It’s a valuation play.

And it’s one of the fastest ways SMEs can close the “value gap” the article highlights so clearly.

If 2026 is the year you want your hard work to translate into measurable enterprise value, start with your operations, and build a sustainable business that is profitable.

The path from ambition to a higher enterprise value is rarely straight, but it doesn't have to be a mystery.

At AS Consulting Partners, we know many ambitious SMEs have the vision, but lack the structure and guidance required to ensure profitability gets systematically optimised.

Our approach isn't about one-off advice; it's a proven methodology that takes the rigour of big-town strategy and delivers it with the hands-on accountability SMEs need. We start by defining a clear, measurable vision of success, then implement quarterly sprints to ensure every action builds measurable impact.

This structure is what turns hopeful growth into trackable, sustainable enterprise value.

Welcoming 2026 with clarity, momentum and a fresh perspective.

2025 was a milestone year for AS Consulting Partners, from launching the division to running our first strategy workshops, helping clients discover growth pathways, and seeing our wider team at Alexander Spencer energised by the shift toward business advisory and consulting.

We watched business owners gain clarity, reignite stalled growth, and finally get the structure they needed to scale the business and move forward with confidence.

And now, 2026 brings even more opportunity.

This year, we’re doubling down on what made 2025 so impactful: future-focused strategy, hands-on ex*****on, powerful management reporting, and giving SMEs access to big-firm capability in a way that’s practical, personal and affordable.

We’re excited to carry this momentum into 2026, supporting even more businesses to grow, transform, scale and build real enterprise value.

Wishing our clients, partners and community a successful year ahead. Let’s make 2026 the year your ambition turns into action.

If growth always feels like a ‘next month’ project… you’re not alone.

Most business owners aren’t short on ambition - they’re short on space to think. When you’re buried in operations, the future becomes something you plan for later. Then later never comes.

But here’s the truth:

Your business won’t grow until you do the work outside the day-to-day.

That clarity you keep waiting for? It arrives when you step out, look forward and put structure behind the ideas sitting in your head.

This is where real change starts - not in the numbers of last year, but in the decisions you make about the next three to five.

If you’re stuck in delivery, stretched thin, or feeling like you’re running a business that depends too much on you… it’s time to shift gears.

Make space for growth now, not later. Your future enterprise value depends on it.

Book a chat today to discover your opportunity for growth and the stepping stones to get there.

If you are not planning for growth in the next year, then you’re behind 60% of Australian SMEs.

A record 10.1% average revenue growth is forecasted by almost 60% of Australian SMEs. The optimism is back, but are the foundations ready to support it?

The latest ScotPac SME Growth Index reveals a clear picture: confidence is soaring. After a subdued economic period, almost 60% of SME owners are projecting double-digit revenue increases into March 2026. This is fantastic news for the engine room of our economy.

However, the report also shows a widening growth divide. While one side is bullish, the other side, including 35% of SMEs, is anticipating revenue decline, with one in four in outright contraction.

At AS Consulting Partners, we see two critical takeaways for our ambitious clients from this data:

1. The Strategy Must Match the Ex*****on Capability & Capacity

If your business is projecting a record 10.1% growth, your current Operational Enablers must be stress-tested. Growth stalls when systems, processes, and people haven't been adequately invested in.

If your growth is based on inefficient systems, you will simply replicate those problems at a greater volume. Our approach ensures your growth is profitable, planned, and supported by a Structured Framework that maximises profitable growth.

2. Agility is the Key to Seizing Opportunity

The conditions are no longer uniform across sectors and states. The lesson is clear: agility will be key. For those with a growth mindset, this means being ready to seize opportunities by prioritising Key Initiatives and having the financial clarity (strong Cashflow and Balance Sheet) to invest strategically.

We bring systematic ex*****on and big-town consulting expertise to ensure your growth forecast turns into a profitable reality.

Are you ready to translate ambition into measurable, sustainable growth?

If your business is aiming for that record 10.1% revenue increase, ensure your foundations are ready for the lift. Contact us today for a conversation about applying a structured approach to your growth strategy.

Every ambitious business reaches a point where an inability to scale hamstrings growth.

That’s when experience, structure and accountability make all the difference.

With almost 30 years dedicated to driving strategic growth and operational excellence, Neeraj Sharma, Partner and Head of Consulting at AS Consulting Partners, has helped businesses of every size navigate complex transformations and achieve measurable results.

After decades advising large corporates, Neeraj saw a clear gap. The structured, disciplined approach used by big consulting firms wasn’t reaching the SMEs, where leaders needed it most. He joined AS Consulting Partners to change that.

With a background in both engineering and business transformation, Neeraj brings a unique ability to connect strategic vision with technical ex*****on. His approach is hands-on and results-driven, helping business owners turn ambition into enterprise value through clear direction, consistent action and accountable support.

Neeraj partners with business leaders who are ready to move beyond ideas and start building lasting value.
