Finalised the selections for our Dewhurst Project today! Lots of tailoring to make this space both functional and beautiful, and I’m really happy with where we landed. Very excited to see this one come to life in the next couple of months. We are doing a brand new kitchen and lounge room space as well as new flooring and window coverings and all the finer details in between.

DENISON PROJECT - Before and After (scroll to the end to see where we started!)

Our Denison Project is finally complete and I’m so happy to share it with you all. The client wanted to turn her old bathroom into a charming little modern cottage retreat, a space that was equal parts practical as it was beautiful. A play around with the layout and repositioning of the bath and vanity allowed us to do the following -

- Add a larger bath (the old one was small and not great for adult use!)
- Upgrade to a 1200mm wide vanity from a 750mm wide, adding heaps more practical storage and bench space
- Create a gorgeous visual focal point with the window and bath.

Incorporating those practical solutions with a beautiful combination of materials and finishes, we managed to create a dreamy little space (brought to life for us by the wonderful team at Countryside Builders) and we are so pleased with the final result!

Perfectly curated materials win every time. One of my favourite parts of the design process is hunting for all the materials and spending plenty of time ensuring they work together. Even in the most simplest or budget builds, ensuring your paint colour works with your flooring that works with your cabinetry that works with your sofa fabric…it could be the smallest change in the colour selection that doesn’t change the cost at all, but makes the biggest difference to everything working smoothly together, feeling harmonious and perfectly complimenting each other. It’s those little things that can make your home feel like a chefs kiss!

The sweetest bedroom. I was scrolling back through some old projects and found this pic which I don’t think I’ve ever shared. This was one of my favourite homes to work on, a gorgeous old cottage that we personalised to the client but also made sure the rooms felt like they belonged in this sweet home. The wallpaper here from is one of my favourites!

Finalised materials and palette for an ensuite and bathroom renovation as well as main house flooring selections for a Bombira reno.

The main flooring won’t be done for a little while yet, but it’s always good to have a plan in place for where you are heading with your renovation. While bathrooms will be the first space renovated, we picked flooring and paint for the whole home alongside these selections too. This helps keep the whole house on track, and results in seamless flow room to room once you get to the end.

Excited to see the clients take these selections and transform their already lovely home into something that’s tailored to them!

Announcement 📣

Hey everyone! I’ve been laying low lately, on socials and with work over the past couple of months. Earlier this year, we decided as a family to finally commit to a life changing dream that we had been pushing aside for a long time, because life gets comfy and change feels scary. We bit the bullet and decided to move away from Sydney, over the mountains and out to the Central Tablelands of NSW. As with big life decisions, there are big joys but also some sad things attached to it, and the move left me wondering what to do about Cinder Design. I had grown a beautiful clientele list, and all my work was Camden based, and I was thriving. I loved it all. But business ownership is also really hard, and I stopped taking clients on in anticipation of the move. I do still have some long term projects going that have me back and forth for now, but it’s given me some time to breath a little more, and focus on my family, some focus that’s long overdue and very much welcomed by the kids. I’ve been still getting a lot of enquires, so I thought it best I let you all know that for now, Cinder is on a break. I’m not sure how long it will be or in what capacity I’ll return, and where my projects will be based, but I do have a feeling it’s not forever, it’s just for now. I’ll still have some awesome projects to share over the coming months as the wrap up. Thank you for everyone who has been a supporter of Cinder since I started on this road 4.5 years ago. I’m so proud of what I’ve achieved and I can’t wait to do it all again, when the time is right.

KITCHEN

The kitchen has been traditionally dubbed the heart of the home, and with good reason too. In this build the kitchen was central to so many areas, the dining, sunroom, sitting area, rumpus and very accessible from the secondary bedrooms too. The scale of the space was generous, so the height of the cabinetry had to match, to ensure it was all well proportioned to the house and room. While initially the client wanted white cabinetry, as the home palette came together, we knew it was deserving of something special, to make it a stand out space. By painting the cornice the same colour as the cabinetry, we draw the eyes up all the way to the ceiling, maximising the grand feel of the kitchen. I love how this space came together, there are so so many details that we considered, and it is as beautiful as it is functional.

BEFORE AND AFTER TIME!

Here is the ensuite and wardrobe leading on from yesterdays main bedroom post. The original space was two seperate rooms, were both tight and not functional. The vanity had no bench space, and the shower was small. Merging the two spaces allowed a wrap around design, with the wardrobe flowing into the new vanity, providing plenty of storage and bench space. We removed the old window and put in a skylight, allowing the addition of a large shower. This layout also creates great privacy and an organised space from the bedroom view. We couldn’t be happier with the results here!

BEFORE AND AFTER TIME!

This sweet little main bedroom was part of a ensuite/wardrobe/bedroom refresh. I’ve done a few rooms in this home over the years and it was a pleasure to be back to help create a sanctuary for my client. The original bedroom had two different height doors into the wardrobe and ensuite. We combined these spaces so only one entry was required. The wallpaper was a welcome addition which helped create a quaint cottage style room. Replacing the existing light with a softer option helped make this space a feminine and dreamy little bedroom. Love how it all came together in the end! Sharing the bathroom/wardrobe soon!
