For years, I planned my life around a world that was fairly stable and predictable. I think we all did. I built my career, made sensible decisions and followed a well trodden path precious generations had that I thought would lead to a good life.
In the last five years, I reached a point where I started questioning whether the life I’d built was still the life I wanted. The world had changed around me, my priorities were shifted after I had my child, and I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted the next five years to look like.
I found myself doing what I suspect a lot of women like me do. Thinking about all the possibilities, worrying about making the wrong decision and trying to work out what to do next.
My background is in national security strategic foresight, where anticipating change and preparing for different possibilities are part of the job. Yet it took me a while to realise I could use those same skills and tools to think more intentionally about my own future.
Once I started applying my See It. Shape It. Own It. method to my own life, I approached things differently. Instead of trying to find one perfect path, I started with a vision, and look at what’s changing, what matters to me and what options I had when the world changes so I could still have the future I wanted.
That experience is a big part of why I created FuturePivots. I want other women to have practical tools to make sense of change and feel more confident about the decisions they’re making for their future.
I’m running my free Design Your Future Five Masterclass to introduce you to this way of thinking and help you start mapping out your own next five years.
You don’t have to have everything figured out. You just need a way to start.
If you’ve been wondering what comes next for you, I’d love you to join me.
