We weren't the only one out and about on the farm earlier this week. Gould's Monitor aka Sand Goanna or Racehorse Goanna (Varanus gouldii). As Pete says, the best camera is the one you have with you - this was taken from the Ute window with a phone.

The first Pallid Cuckoo of the season. You can see the rim light around the bird which I really didn't think would photograph with my phone.

It wasn't just the Big Orange Tractor that took Carnamah by storm earlier this month. The abundance of Kambarang after timely rains had birds and birdwatchers heading up this way for the thrill of the twitch. Lifers aplenty. Lovely folk too, to share their finds, photos and thrills.

It was Date Night in the Inering Hills, Carnamah last night.

Posturing, posing, and all dolled up with blue eye-shadow.

These are Wheatbelt Frogs - Neobatrachus kunapalari - but other frogs were calling too.

After 15 months of very dry conditions the 25 mm that fell over two days was very welcome.

The wooden joinery in the old farmhouse might be splitting open in the relentless heat but there's still something to smile about. Wallowing in mud from an upturned bird water station is much more fun with a friend.

We arrived back at the farm with the car outside temperature gauge showing 44- 47 degrees. A quick check around the garden and one of the bird water stations was knocked around. Laid the blame on the 'roos coming in to look for water. Headed over to right it and - Hey! look what I found! Glad to be able to offer a belly cooling spot for a welcome guest.
