Stewart Anthony Johnston, a key figure in exposing the Oakden aged care abuse scandal, has been sentenced to nearly 13 months in jail for possessing child exploitation material.

Johnston, who remained an advocate for aged care reform and even launched a political party, pleaded guilty to the charges and will be eligible for parole in September.

All too often, those who claim to fight for justice are found guilty of the very crimes they condemn. In our country, where trust in institutions is already fragile, this case shows that true accountability must extend to all, regardless of past advocacy or public image.

Roblox and Discord are facing a lawsuit for allegedly enabling child s*xual exploitation.

The suit claims predators used Roblox’s “whisper” function to directly contact and groom a 13-year-old boy, leading to harassment so severe that his family had to relocate. Whilst Roblox insists it prioritises safety, experts warn that online predators can easily manipulate children.

Far too often, tech companies fail to protect the most vulnerable while predators exploit gaps in online safety. In Australia, where child protection failures are already under scrutiny, this case is yet another reminder that we must demand stronger safeguards for children in digital spaces.

Former Scout and police officer Alexander John Clancy is on trial for alleged child s*x offenses against two girls.

One accuser, a former Scout, claims he assaulted her at 14, describing manipulation. Clancy admitted to child po*******hy charges involving another victim. The prosecution will use texts to show his alleged s*xual interest in minors, while the defense denies this and suggests the accusers have motives to lie.

Power imbalances, especially in trusted environments like youth organisations, can be exploited. It's crucial to empower young people to speak up against abuse and for institutions to prioritize safeguarding children.

A Brisbane basketball coach, 67, has been charged with grooming, r**e, and s*xual assault of a child under 16 over four years.

Detectives arrested him in Mango Hill, charging him with seven counts of r**e, two counts of s*xual assault, and one count of grooming. He was denied bail and will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court. Police urge anyone with information to come forward, reminding survivors that support is available.

Far too often, positions of trust are exploited, leaving lasting harm. We must remain vigilant, listen to survivors, and ensure those who abuse their power are held accountable.

Adam Charles Lusk, 46, has been sentenced to 28 years for drugging and s*xually assaulting 12 women and girls, some still in school. A jury found him guilty of 97 charges, with offences committed between 2020 and 2022.

Lusk lured victims to his home, spiked their drinks, and filmed the assaults whilst they were unconscious. Police uncovered dozens of recordings in a hidden phone folder labeled "secret." Judge Alan Troy called his crimes "predatory" and "merciless," highlighting his lack of remorse.

Far too often, predators like Lusk operate in plain sight—manipulating, exploiting, and escaping justice for years. Australia must confront the hard truth: our systems are failing to protect women, and change is long overdue.

Former Beaconsfield Primary School teacher Nicholas O’Shea, 31, avoided jail despite admitting to 13 counts of s*xual assault, grooming, and indecent acts against nine teenage boys, many students or baseball players he coached.

Though the judge recognised the "wide-reaching impact," O’Shea received a 12-month suspended sentence, meaning immediate release. His punishment includes 300 hours of community service, mandatory rehabilitation, and lifelong s*x offender registration.

This case raises serious questions about our justice system and its ability to protect children. The victims and their families are understandably devastated by this outcome. This decision sends a message that the safety and well-being of children are not prioritised.
