Last Thursday, Mitch Amidy had the pleasure of attending the Moreton Bay Black Coffee event, hosted at the wonderful Kakadu Organics in Samford.
It was another fantastic opportunity to connect with local Indigenous business owners and stakeholders to share ideas, and celebrate the vibrant spirit of our business community. A huge thank you to my old Darwin colleague Kylie-Lee Bradford who owns Kakadu Organics, for providing such a welcoming space โ€” and of course, some great organic food!

Looking forward to the next Black Coffee event and continuing to build strong connections across Moreton Bay.

Close The Gap day fast approaching - March 20, 2025.

Emus Talking is committed to supporting the achievement of the Closing the Gap targets related to economic development, particularly by helping Indigenous businesses grow and thrive. By focusing on Indigenous business support, Emus Talking aims to create more opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to become economically independent and self-sufficient.

One of the key ways Emus Talking is contributing to these targets is by providing tailored business support services, such as business consulting, grant writing assistance, and access to networks and finance. This support helps Indigenous entrepreneurs establish and expand their businesses, which in turn creates job opportunities, particularly for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth. Through these efforts, Emus Talking directly aligns with the target of having 65% of Indigenous youth (ages 15-24) engaged in employment, education, or training by 2028. By helping Indigenous businesses succeed, Emus Talking ensures young people can access meaningful employment and skill-building opportunities within their communities.

Emus Talking also aims to play a role in addressing the target for stronger workforce participation. By supporting the growth of Indigenous businesses, Emus Talking helps create long-term job opportunities, contributing to the goal of having 60% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 25-64 employed by 2028. The organisationโ€™s efforts aim to empower Indigenous communities through economic independence, which directly impacts workforce participation rates.

Through its dedicated work in business development, Emus Talking is actively assisting in the realisation of Closing the Gap targets by creating sustainable pathways for employment, education, and economic growth for Indigenous people.

Empowering Indigenous Business Success with Emus Talking ๐Ÿค

At Emus Talking, we are committed to driving the success of Indigenous businesses across Australia. With the Indigenous business sector contributing over $16 billion annually to the national economy and employing more than 116,000 people, we recognize the incredible potential and resilience of Indigenous entrepreneurs.

Supporting Growth and Economic Impact ๐Ÿ’ฒ

The number of Indigenous business owner-managers has grown by over 50% in recent years, now exceeding 29,000. This remarkable growth highlights the increasing participation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander entrepreneurs in Australiaโ€™s economy. At Emus Talking, we support this momentum by offering expert business and operational guidance, ensuring Indigenous businesses have the tools they need to thrive.
Industry Diversity and Opportunity
Indigenous businesses are active across various industries, including construction, professional services, healthcare, and emerging sectors like renewable energy. Our team at Emus Talking helps businesses navigate these industries with tailored strategies, operational support, and mentorship programs designed to maximize success.

Overcoming Challenges Together ๐Ÿšซ

Despite the growth of Indigenous businesses, challenges such as access to capital, financial management, and networking opportunities remain. For entrepreneurs in remote communities, finding the right support and resources can be even more difficult. Emus Talking provides hands-on assistance in areas like:
โœ” Business planning and operational strategy
โœ” Grant and Tender Writing
โœ” HR & Policy Support
โœ” Outsourced Business Support
Leveraging Policy and Support for Success
Government initiatives like the Indigenous Procurement Policy (IPP) have opened doors for Indigenous businesses to secure contracts and grow. However, navigating these opportunities can be complex. Emus Talking works alongside business owners to ensure they are well-positioned to take advantage of these policies, access funding, and build sustainable operations.

Looking to the Future โœ…

The Indigenous business sector is evolving, with new opportunities emerging in innovation, technology, and sustainability. Emus Talking is here to help Indigenous entrepreneurs stay ahead of industry trends, connect with the right networks, and build businesses that create long-term impact for their communities.
If youโ€™re an Indigenous business owner looking for operational support, mentorship, or strategic guidance, Emus Talking is here to help. Letโ€™s work together to strengthen Indigenous businesses and drive lasting economic empowerment.
