Compassionate Communities Australia is one of the puzzle pieces of my worklife/deathlife... I'm so exctied to take part and try to think about HOW we take action in our commuities that are sustainable long term... how do we EMBED compassionate actions as part of general community life... how do we remember that this is just what we do, because we are ??

Shout out to my local ol' town, I reckon we're working hard at it!

Big things are happening at Compassionate Communities Australia!
We’ve had a busy start to the year, and we’re excited to be sharing these updates with you on our:

📖Resource Hub
A central access point and repository for practical resources, a place to centralise research evidence, practice and tools for learning about Compassionate Communities.

🤝 Community of Practice. (CoP)
A space for aligned and connected community change through:
✅established leaders sitting alongside emerging community practitioners
✅lived experience and professional knowledge meeting as equals
✅ grassroots innovation being recognised as legitimate expertise,
People gather not to present ideas, but to collectively make sense of what is possible

Behind the scenes, we’ve been building something special:
70+ people connected through our Community of Practice
195+ resources and records compiled for Resource Hub Database
33+ new resources identified for development
New tools created, including "How to Bake a Compassionate Community"
Monthly CoP meetings booked for the rest of the year.

🚀 We’re getting ready for the public release of the Resource Hub in August 2026, and we’re putting the final touches on The Convergence — a national gathering in November 2026 - that will bring together Compassionate Community leaders and partners from across Australia.

💙 The heart of this work
The most important thing we’ve learned is this. We are the resources we are looking for.

Compassionate communities grow when neighbours, volunteers, local leaders, organisations and services support each other and work together. Whether it’s checking in on a neighbour, offering a meeting space, sharing knowledge, or helping connect people — every action matters.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed their time, ideas and passion so far. This movement is growing because communities across Australia are choosing to care, connect and lead together

We are stronger together. 💙

Yes. Laughing at death cafe a regular occurrence in Dungog.

The Death Cafe concept began in Switzerland in the 2000s to help people "make the most of our finite lives". Now, the concept has spread globally.

Last Drinks is coming to Dungog!

We know how to prepare for what matters.

We plan for floods. We plan for fires. We stock up, check in on neighbours, make evacuation plans, and talk openly about what we’d do in an emergency. So why don’t we prepare for the biggest emotional emergency of our lives & the lives of the people we love?

Come join us for a fun filled night of planning & sharing.
Bring your thoughts, biggest wishes & ideas

Our community - where death, freely talked about gives rise to a more lived life! In a family home, welcoming everyone. Come. Question. Learn. Share.
