We love seeing guests arrive ready to make a day of it at Yardie Creek!

But don’t worry — you definitely don’t need all the gear. A drink bottle, sun protection and a phone for snapping a few photos will do the trick just fine.

Anything extra is simply a bonus for spotting wildlife, capturing the views and settling in to enjoy the gorge.

Winter wildflower season is one of the most underrated times to explore the World Heritage listed Cape Range National Park. After rain and cooler weather, bursts of colour begin appearing amongst the rugged limestone ranges and along the creek line.

The contrast of delicate wildflowers against the ancient red rock, turquoise water and rugged cliffs makes this time of year really special.

FUN FACT FRIDAY - Meet the infamous Black Flanked rock wallaby!

These furry cuties line the gorge walls during the day up Yardie Creek and are the star of the show! A few things you may not have known about these guys include;

- The rock wallabies can jump 4 metres horizontally and 2 metres vertically whilst scaling the rocky cliffs of their habitats.

- Mothers whilst pregnant can ‘pause’ their pregnancies, a mechanism known as embryonic diapause. The developing embryo will remain dormant until hormone levels rebalance to continue development of the embryo.

- Despite Black Flanked rock wallabies (Petrogale lateralis) being endangered, the population through the Cape Range is stable. This population has even been utilised to restabilise other regions inhabited by the same species of rock wallaby that have suffered from population loss e.g. Kalbarri National Park - an amazing example of conservation!

Once you get your eye in spotting these wallabies, they will steal your heart!
