Today sitting in a workshop around diversity and inclusion I learnt some staggering statistics which shocked me.

It seems that if you are from a particular culture and have a name representing that culture you are often pushed aside during the selection process and overlooked.

Based on research within Australia the following statistics apply:

- If you have a Chinese name you need to apply 68% more times than others to get your resume noticed
- If you have an Islamic name you need to apply 64% more times
- If you have an Aboriginal name you need to apply 35% more times
- If you have an Italian name it's 12% more times

What this tells me is that in Australia we are not recruiting on merit and skills and this saddens me.

I vow to ensure all clients are presented to the best of my ability and their merit is demonstrated through my resume - regardless of race, culture, gender and ethnicity. 🤞
