The current status and recent media reports on the allegations of sexual assault taking place within Daycare Centers. These allegations involving extremely young children is distressing, shocking and behavior that is absolutely unacceptable. For many years I have worked on the outskirts of this issue. Initially with NSW Health, in working with a Multi Agency team in the development of the policies and procedures that would ultimately deliver the Working With Children's Check. I was also the HR Officer responsible for delivering the Risk Assessment of positive outcomes of this check. My Brief would go to the Legal Committee for their consideration regarding application for positions within NSW Health. When my HR Manager moved to Corrective Services I moved with her and we delivered these protocols to that agency. My work in Child Protection continued over many years, now as a retired person, reading about this horrendous situation within childcare centers, my head is spinning on how this issue may be addressed. So I am making a list, confident that with my experiences and legal understanding of legislation, policies, procedures and audit, I could contribute. Attached is the ABCs Broadcast on this very topic, viewed 2 weeks ago. If you are interested Google ABC Four Corners, Ashley Griffith, How Predators are targeting children in childcare, only if you have a strong stomach, I do and I still found this situation sickening.

Back in the day, wives kissed their husbands Goodbye each morning, fearing that this man might not come home. Things have changed, somewhat, still you can never be sure. But I do love seeing these old photos of how things were done before we decided 'we need to do better than this, safety first'.

What is the latest in Safety? Well, it is Psychological Safety in the Workplace. I am not a psychologist, I am a WHS Consultant, with a lot of experience in the delivery and management of Occupational Health and Safety. Finally, Mental Health has come out of the dark and is now in the spotlight for those responsible for maintaining a safe work environment.

Sydney is finally getting the summer it has been waiting for. The dark side is that there has been an unprecedented increase in drownings. Children are drowning at the beaches and in the backyard pools, not necessarily their own family pool. As parents we all have a responsibility to ensure the safety of our children. Keep an eye on them when they are at the beach, do not swim at unpatrolled beaches. Pool drownings are the silent killer, small children simply slip below the surface without a murmur. As a pool owner you are responsible for ensuring you pool is securely fenced, secured from small children breaching the fence and slipping below the surface of your pool.

Well it's back to school time and how are the Safety Reps doing? Home schooling due to COVID had a huge impact on the kids and resulted to changes within the function of schools. The other less obvious change but high on the scale of 'Things to do', is the return of School Safety administration and management. Kids and staff are now in full swing at school, lets keep them safe and review the schools safety systems.
