This is the story behind Camden’s Wind Phone, Whispers to the Wind...
From one mother’s unimaginable loss came a place where an entire community can speak the words still sitting in their hearts.
Nadine Gale lost her son, Archie, in 2011, just two weeks before his first birthday.💔
Since then, Nadine has found ways to keep Archie present within her family and community. She talks about him, shares his stories and continues to help others. For Nadine, it's another way of loving her boy, even though he cannot be here physically.
After discovering the original Wind Phone in Japan, Nadine knew Camden needed one too. A physical place where people could pause, pick up a disconnected phone and speak to someone they miss.
In August 2024, she put her idea forward to Camden Council. What began as a mother’s deeply personal vision slowly became real.
Quinton from Quinton transformed reclaimed local materials into the Wind Phone artwork including a glass heart & dragonfly detail.
The dragonfly is for Archie and his fellow CASK and PCH warriors. For Nadine, it ensures a little piece of Archie’s magic will always hang within this space.
The Victorian arch and bench were restored and finished by Narellan Powdercoating ‼️ , while a local Cobbitty craftsman created the seat using recycled hardwood around 100 years old.
Even the concrete slab by Gauci Civil holds part of Archie’s story. Nadine and her family scattered leaves into the wet concrete, including an “A” at the front. And in one of those moments that feels like more than coincidence, the man who laid the slab was also named Archie. 🍃
Whispers to the Wind now stands along the Miss Llewella Davies Pioneer Walkway at Camden Town Farm, offering a quiet place to sit, remember, reflect and feel connected🕊☁️
It's the first Wind Phone of its kind in NSW, but more importantly, it's a mother’s love made tangible and shared with anyone who may need it.
Thank you, Nadine, for trusting our community with Archie’s story and for turning your pain into a place that may help others heal.
