So often during the late night scroll, you come across ways that you can use AI.

• Organise your inbox
• Notify you of meetings
• Get AI to create social media posts for you
• Sales and lead follow up

Now all of these are quite useful. But mostly in the corporate world.

Not many farmers I know have a calendar blocked out for each mob shift.

But I also think that we can use the principles behind these examples to adapt to on farm use.

You think AI could help you on farm but you’re not sure where it can be applied on farm.

All the examples you’ve seen are for corporate examples.

So you’ve opened ChatGPT or Claude, and you’re not really sure where to start.

So you’ve opened ChatGPT close it again.

You write it off as needing to be good at tech.

But if you can write a text message or voice note into your phone, you can use AI.

Give it some context and start with your smallest, most repetitive job

Last week I had the opportunity to speak with producers from around the New England on using AI in the Farm Office.

Questions ranged from ‘where do I start’ through to building custom options to collate data from multiple sources and being able to utilise AI in the paddock.

Having concerns around data security and privacy is common when using AI, and rightfully so.

Here are 3 things to help manage the risk:
• Toggle off helping to improve AI models (this can be found in your privacy settings and is applicable across multiple AI platforms including ChatGPT and Claude)
• Be aware that deleting a chat doesn’t delete it from the saved memories. (You can check and edit stored memories under capabilities in Claude and Profile memory settings in ChatGPT)
• De-identify your data. Remove any confidential and identifying data before it hits the chat.

I ran a workshop last week focusing on using AI in the Farm Office. Almost 300 people signed up and over 120 were online live.

After showing a simple demo of how you can utilise Claude or ChatGPT to go from handwritten notes to a spreadsheet and then showcasing what’s possible with a few examples of app builds, the room saw real value in how AI can be utilised on farm. Both in the office and in the paddock.
