I ran a workshop last week focusing on using AI in the Farm Office. Almost 300 people signed up and over 120 were online live.

After showing a simple demo of how you can utilise Claude or ChatGPT to go from handwritten notes to a spreadsheet and then showcasing what’s possible with a few examples of app builds, the room saw real value in how AI can be utilised on farm. Both in the office and in the paddock.

Tired of getting generic answers that sound like everyone else and thought AI mightn’t be for you?

Context and details are some of the most important things you can provide your chosen AI platform in order to make it useful for your specific business.

I like to think of it as a new employee. Regardless of what business you run, you give a new employee some sort of induction and training on the details of your business and how it runs. That’s exactly how you should treat your AI platform.

There are so many use cases where AI can be helpful in your livestock business.

From tracking weights, treatment data, compliance checks and general farm admin, it helps to build a system that supports you. Saving you time and helping to manage the 101 tabs open in your brain.

One thing I absolutely know though is that it can’t replicate human creativity. Find a template on canva. Find a small rural biz to support. Not only will your business thank you but so will theirs.

Data security was the first things I had to sort before I started using AI for data analysis.

So I built a tool that strips out anything identifiable before a file goes near AI. PICs. NLIS tag RFID numbers. Property and Owner names. They’re all swapped for placeholder values.

Once the analysis is done, the tool puts the real data back. Which means it’s not just a once off fix. You can use it to track trends over time or use it to help draft out a line of stock, with your real numbers restored at the end.
