Cathedral Basilica of Maria Santissima della Madia - Monopoli

I've never been so awestruck by a cathedral before.

Contruction began in 1107. In 1117, construction halted because the church ran out of roof timber. According to local legend, a raft carrying a sacred Byzantine icon of the Virgin Mary miraculously floated into Monopoli's harbor on December 16. The raft's massive logs were used to finish the roof.

It's an Italian national monument and I highly recommend a visit if in Monopoli to see the incredible marble inlays and stunning architecture

Solo day in Monopoli led me to .salumeria for a lunch pit stop

We think last night could be the highlight!

Masseria Salamina, the most beautiful farmhouse, hosted by Filippo and his family. We were treated with a tour of the property before our amazing dinner.

Seasonal Apulian flavours, and ingredients grown on the estate turn dinner into something unforgettable. Local wines paired with the meals was icing on the cake.

Too much beauty to put into words and to describe the food we can't convey.
