TRANSLATIONS

'Progressive' is a political position centred around delusions of grandeur and enlightenment; they 'know best' and are experts on everything. It's a highly judgmental, regressive and authoritarian mindset that seeks to punish and ostracise non-believers.

'Moderate' is a political position that requires the abscence of a political backbone and fortitude. Commonly used as a cover by people who know what is right, wrong and real, but who are too gutless to say it. Usually motivated by a self-interest in wanting to please everyone. Basically, they blow with the wind and will take whatever position is politically convenient as they're petrified of being called nasty names.

Last night I was lucky enough to get along to a Clarence Football Club fundraiser and hear from on and off-field sporting powerhouses about their experiences and takes on leadership. I'm always inspired by the way sport can bring people together.

If your intention was to congest the city, Collins Street has nailed it. 10/10. I wonder if they're proud?

Want to congest your city too? Here's how:

- install bike lanes on both sides of an inner CBD street that are empty the vast majority of the time

- halve the parking so elderly, kids and people with a disability have less access

- install a bustop literally in the middle of the traffic lane so traffic can't move past

- remove lane splitting so every has to wait when someone needs to turn

- 'scramble' your crossings so only three cars can get through each traffic light cycle.

All this for only $1.2 million.

SNACKGATE information STILL being withheld. 130 days ago I lodged a Right to Information application for information that will shed a lot on light on the extent of Greens Candidate Deputy Mayor Zelinda Sherlock's removal of ratepayer funded products from Town Hall. The Council has still not made a decision on my application.... they need to 'consult with third parties' captured in my information request.... I'm guessing the third parties aren't very keen to let this information come out!

This morning Greens Leader Rosalie Woodruff was on radio talking about 'transparency' and the proper use of 'taxpayer funds'. How about apply these principles, Rosalie, to one of your own?

What we do know is that the Greens have put up a candidate that has admitted taking products on many occasions over a number of YEARS. They've put up a candidate who, despite apparently having Law qualifications, "misunderstood" a policy that has never been misunderstood before. Yea, right. Cr Sherlock took products for a number of years for her "home office" and treated it as a "fringe benefit".

ROLL UP, ROLL UP, Grab your Short Stay GOLDEN TICKET today!

No doubt a parting gift for the Lord Mayor, the HCC has voted to pursue banning future short stay permits in residential zones. Existing permits are unaffected (likely because they legally can't, I suspect - they would have tried).

When you restrict something, it becomes far more valuable. Want a golden ticket too? Get your application in for a short stay (visitor accommodation) permit for your property now. The price is $435 but jumps to $5000 from 1 July. Move quick. You have two years to act on the permit. Inbox if you're not sure how it works.

And in yet more genius, apparently they'll let you get a visitor accommodation permit for new builds.... so, for those who can build, there will be far more incentive to get the short-stay permit at the same time (as you can't later). This is mean owners are far more incentivized to make their new build short-stay from day one!

Life satisfaction has fallen in Australia. People were happier during the pandemic then they are now. This isn’t suprising at all, but it is upsetting. But it doesn't have to be this way. We can turn the ship in the right direction.

Word of Warning. If you see a local government candidate asking for donations and saying that it's tax-deductible, they're wrong. You can't claim donations to local government candidates on tax.

Kind of disturbing to see this sort of error when someone is thinking they can lead a city and oversee governance of a $200 million-ish organisation.
