Before being 'white washed' (again) please read this outline to explain that the 'statement from the heart' is not for the benefit of First Nations People.

Thank you Tahlia Torcasio for sharing & Keiran Stewart-Assheton for writing with such clarity.

To give a very brief run down on just some of the main concerns.

Regarding a Voice to Parliament;
- A Voice to Parliament as it is proposed is a toothless tiger. They have no real power or authority beyond giving out recommendations that can and will be ignored by the government whenever it suits them or the capitalist class.

- A Voice to Parliament as it is proposed will be hand selected by the colonial government who is going to ensure they select people who represent the interests of said colonial government and capitalism.

- As a result of a Voice to Parliament, actual grass roots community leaders, activists, organisers, etc and their messages will be drowned out more than they already are under the guise that their voices are being heard via the Voice to Parliament.

Regarding Constitutional Recognition;
- Constitutional Recognition seeks to extinguish what little Sovereignty indigenous people have by further assimilating them into the Australian Commonwealth

- Constitutional Recognition doesn't follow due processes or proper and moral legal procedures and protocols. Despite being an oxymoron, immoral and unethical, it is also a direct violation of several International and Wartime laws which Australia and the British Commonwealth are both signatories to.

- Constitutional Recognition is just a reworking of the sham that was the Uluru Statement. When we look at who the major benefactors behind the statement and along with it Constitutional Recognition we find the exact parties who have the most to lose and least to gain from actual Indigenous Sovereignty and Land Rights - Australia's biggest mining, logging, and agricultural conglomerates. Why would these companies finance their own downfall? Quite simply; they wouldn't.

Regarding the Treaty process;
- Everywhere we look around the world we see colonial governments violating the treaties they signed with the respective Indigenous population. In NZ the government routinely violates it's treaties with the Maori. In Canada, the US, and all of their outposts (like Hawaii) we see the exact same thing time and time again. We see these treaties being violated across Central and South America, we even see these treaties being violated in places like North Europe where the treaty process with the Sami aren't being respected.
To think that the Australian Government wouldn't simply violate any treaty with its Indigenous people when it suits them would be naivety.

- The people pushing these treaty talks are self-elected "leaders" and "representatives" who don't actually speak from a grass roots perspective or on behalf of their communities best interests. These people have no authority and no right to be entering into treaties with the government on Indigenous peoples behalf, a violation of both our Traditional Laws as well as democracy.
They're pushing these points to push their own clout and their own agendas.

There's so much more and I could go on and on all week about this scam but there's a quick summary for now.

HARMONY IN YOU / my first words for 2022

If you must give me a gift,
Make it one that grows (like a plant) or opens (like a book),
so I can enjoy it for a lifetime of comfort and escape.

If you must give me a compliment,
Make it one that goes below the surface,
so I can own it, no matter the ever-changing standards of beauty.

If you must give me a critique,
Make it one that is valid,
so I am not burdened by insecurities of yours being projected on to me.

If you must give me a hardship,
Make it one that is divisible by two,
so I am not forced to carry it alone.

If you must give me a map of directions,
Make it one that is open to interpretation,
so I can still rely on my heart for guidance.

If you must give me a hateful viewpoint,
Make it one that is lightweight,
so I can fold it into a flower petal and push it out to sea.

If you must give me a goal,
Make it one that is doable,
so I can feel encouraged, even with the tiniest of steps.

If you must give me a sliver of time,
Make it one rich in connection,
so I can feel held, even as the world spins out of control.

On the first day of 2022, I scribbled these words on the back of a used greeting card using a red pen. I didn’t know where the words were coming from or what they meant, but I knew I shouldn’t let them slip away.

What I see is a self-reclamation statement. To say what I will and will not accept feels like a really good way to start this new year. Please feel free to share your own self-reclamation statements for 2022. Harmony within ourselves ripples out, creating more harmony in our family and in our world.
