So many of us grew up thinking there was one seat at the table, and if she got it, that was one less chance for you.
I see this often in female dominated professions and also small business’ where women feel they have to drag down others to get ‘to the top’.
But the truth is, we don’t need to. We have been conditioned to compete. To find fault in other women to make ourselves feel ‘better’ about ourselves and to move up the ladder.
One of the other areas of life this shows up a lot in is motherhood. The ‘Stay at home mum’ v ‘the working mum’, the ‘I bake everything from scratch mum’ v ‘I buy all the snacks mum’, the ‘gentle parenting mum’ v ‘the hot mess mum’ and the list goes on. But it shouldn’t be a comparison because at the end of the day, we are all doing our bests with what we know and the tools we have at our fingertips.
I would not be where I am if it wasn’t for the women around me. Some close friends, some incredible colleagues, some were strangers who stepped in at times of need and helped so me a way through.
Let’s change the narrative.
