PumpM8 Water Without Limits — A Territory Solution to a Territory Problem
For Northern Australian beef producers, water security isn’t optional. It underpins livestock welfare, grazing utilisation and the ability to confidently manage cattle across vast and remote properties.
PumpM8 was born in Katherine, NT, when Jake Groves and Leigh Fowkes of Northern Renewable Group (NRG) identified a challenge they were seeing across the north: how do you achieve greater water security without becoming increasingly dependent on diesel?
Solar pumping has transformed water infrastructure across the cattle industry. It’s reliable, simple and can significantly reduce diesel use. But solar has one obvious limitation — available pumping hours are largely tied to available sunlight.
Diesel can fill the gap, but running generators on remote bores brings fuel costs, servicing, breakdowns and the labour involved in travelling long distances to refuel and monitor equipment.
Jake and Leigh saw an opportunity to bridge that gap — and the idea behind PumpM8: Water Without Limits began to take shape.
PumpM8 combines solar generation, battery storage and smart pump control, allowing excess solar energy to be stored and used to extend pumping beyond daylight hours. The aim is not simply to replace one energy source with another, but to give producers greater control over when and how they pump water.
And water security is about knowing what is happening, not just keeping the pump running.
PumpM8 provides remote visibility of pump operation, flow, pressure and battery performance, along with remote start and stop capability — helping reduce unnecessary trips to remote bores and giving producers better oversight of critical water infrastructure.
The objective is simple: more pumping hours, less reliance on diesel and greater confidence in water supply.
Designed in Katherine for the realities of Northern Australian operations, PumpM8 is a locally developed response to one of the beef industry’s most fundamental challenges.
