**Warning: Some viewers may find the following story distressing.**

At 3:30pm on 14 July 2005, Michelle called her sons, Brendon and Mathew, to say she’d be home by 4:30. They chatted about their week, ending the call with “I love you.”

By 4:15pm, both boys were gone.

Brendon, driving at 120km/h in a 70km/h zone, lost control on a bend at Morpeth and collided with an oncoming car carrying seven people. The impact was fatal. Both teenagers died instantly, and the other occupants were seriously injured.

At 5:50pm, police knocked on Michelle's door with the words no parent should ever hear: both of her sons had been killed. The next morning, she faced the unimaginable task of identifying them. Planning funerals for two teenage boys is something she never thought she’d have to do.

Brendon was a capable driver, but like many young P-platers, he thought it would never happen to him.

Their younger sister suddenly became an only child. Their stepfather lost his stepsons. Michelle lost her boys and, in many ways, herself. Life would never be the same.

Michelle's mission is now to help ensure no parent ever endures that knock on the door. Please slow down and take care on the roads.
