One of the benefits of doing a lot of travel for work is exploring different parts of cities that I know well I was in Sydney earlier on this week and happened to wander into the RM Williams flagship store and ran into a very old friend Lisa, who helped me choose a beautiful birthday present for my partner.

I just realised this morning that I haven’t posted on this page for a few months. So this happened a few months ago down in Hobart. A massive thank you to everybody who supported me through that very long an arduous process. Including my husband and my amazing supervision team I could not have done without you.

Ah, the joys of work travel around Australia… always an adventure!

Last night I found myself smack bang in the middle of Sydney’s rain bomb/cyclone chaos. I was meant to fly to Cairns for my final two days of work before heading off on a big overseas holiday this weekend. I arrived at the airport early (feeling smug and prepared), only to spend the next four hours bouncing between the airline, our travel manager, the client, and the client’s client, trying to figure out two things:

A) Could I still get to Cairns? (Spoiler: nope.)
B) If not, what’s Plan B?

After much back and forth, I was rebooked on the last flight out of Sydney to Brisbane… which was then cancelled at the last minute after we’d boarded, due to the aircraft overheating.

To be honest, I was genuinely impressed by how calm and courteous everyone stayed—even after we were told the airline wouldn’t be offering accommodation. When weather like this knocks the whole system sideways, it really does make you appreciate how well it usually runs.

Fast-forward to this morning: I made it to Brisbane (thanks, Benedict, for the crash pad), and I’m now running the day’s program virtually from the client’s Brisbane office. We’re still deciding whether I’ll fly to Cairns tonight to wrap up the final session tomorrow.

So… Brissie friends, I might be looking for a spare bed and some good company tonight—or I might be headed north!

This bleary-eyed elevator selfie was taken at 5am, running on about four hours’ sleep. Glamorous, I know.

What a way to finish off an amazing week of work. Four days in North Queensland, and then today in Brisbane working with State development and planning. An amazing smart and gifted group of leaders. Go well, Team.
