Working your Mojo

Working your Mojo Helping people start and scale side hustles, by unearthing what's possible and working with you to make it happen - literally Working Your Mojo!

We help people start or scale side hustles, especially creatives and musicians, by unearthing what's possible and working with you to make it happen. Everyone knows the world is changing and it is not going to change back anytime soon, so you need to create a future that suits you and your own unique creative contribution. Your unique creative contribution could be the creation of a simple and eff

ective business theory, a new way of thinking about an old problem, designing a process that is customer delighting, the design of clothing, a pair of shoes or jewellery, artisan craft, modern art or a song that speaks to you like no other song has before. The good news is the future is rule free - you can choose how you want to be and what you want to do. You can add a side hustle, which might become your full hustle or stay as a side hustle forever, while you work full time, or maybe you would like to have many side hustles (welcome to my world). It is within your power to decide; all gradients are possible! Christina has cultivated the ability to walk into any industry, see what is not seen, distil what is complicated, and simplify the chaos. This skill has been forged in a deliberate and concentrated way for over 20 years, through Personal Coaching and working in Organisational Change Management (before it was even a discipline). Are you a musician? - then read this! Most recently, Christina's attention has been drawn to the music industry. She has had a healthy obsession with music, like forever, and is constantly blown away by the amount of talent out there. While there have been a lot of changes to this industry over the years the relevance of the industry is a strong today as it has ever been. Songs still capture our emotions and explain how we are feeling, they still speak to us like nothing ever before. Making it in the industry has changed dramatically, so new ways need to be created. The rise of the artisan carving a unique way that suits you and your style has never been more relevant than today. You need to do this your way, without sacrificing your musical integrity, and move your side hustle into your main hustle. As the author of Working Your Mojo, Christina has created a 6-track process for musicians & creatives to gain clarity around their music career, and teaches them how to implement their ideas using tangible actions, without spending loads of money. Working Your Mojo is written for musicians & creatives who want to get the results they are expecting, their way. Working your Mojo is all about your music, your way!

Don't read that book - is a strange suggestion coming from someone who runs a business book club (AKA BBC) 🤔📚

Hey, if you are loving it, keep going. If you are struggling - looking at you Wizard of EarthSea and Moby Dick - my (not so) radical suggestion is to stop reading. It sucks to be counting down the chapters.

People finish books they started. Don't they? 🤷🏽‍♀️

The above-mentioned books were a complete slog to get through. I needed to learn this lesson twice - Wizard of EarthSea was at school and Moby Dick was on one of those 'Must Read' lists. Moby tipped me over the edge and I decided then and there - NO MORE.

No more slugging through a book that was not adding value or sparking an interest. No more counting down the chapters. No more wasting my time with a book I was not enjoying.

I instigated the 100 page rule. It applies equally to fiction and non fiction books. It has saved me wasting time on boring books.
I read about 3-5 books at the same time, (one is the BBC Book) so it gives me time to move onto other books, I might enjoy more.
July's BBC book - Master of Change by Brad Stulberg made me wonder whether 100 pages was too many pages.

I apologise in advance to those people that enjoy the book and recommended it to me.

I found the conclusions simplistic, with many moments of 'look I will add some physics here to create the most lame seque possible and make me look smart'.

Please enlighten me, if I missed something. I am happy to be corrected.

We move on...

The next book in Incahoots Business Book Club (AKA BBC) is....

Converge by Dr Catherine Bell.

The byline is “A futurist’s insights into the potential of our world as technology and humanity collide”. Interest peaked!

I read the first paragraph about her being a human 3D printer, by producing 2 sons and smiled, so great start.

We review this one the last Tuesday in September, so plenty of time to sign up and read along. Plus, we have a WhatsApp group to discuss the book in between sessions.

My Pop was a legendary orchardist in Mudgee NSW. Here is only a fraction of the ribbons he won for his produce 🍎

He patiently answered all my questions about everything as I hung out with him doing anything needed on the farm.

What I remember is someone who would show me how to milk a cow to how to sort the apples into the display tray.

I didn't find out till years later, that any displays we completed, he redid after we went to bed.

When he picked a brown snake up from its tail and whip cracked its neck. All we could say was, mouths agape "wow, do it again!" Not realising he had protected us, he did tell us to stay back.

To me he was magical and caring.

When my Nan passed and her daughters were clearing all the stuff Nan collected. I asked my Mum to save me as many trophies and ribbons as she could. 3 trophies sit proudly on my dining room table, polished every 3 months

For years I was not sure what to do with the ribbons, but I knew inspiration would strike.

So here is my brooch/badge wall hanger. I have easy access to my brooches and badges and get to celebrate my Pop every day ❤️

Have you seen that people like to use rock climbing as an analogy to describe a good way of managing change. Maybe not! I am reading this book for bbc (Masters of Change - Brad Stulberg) and when I saw this used again - there was as an eye roll (one of many)! 🙄

I am all for analogies- they create connections and makes it easier to understand and connect to existing knowledge. I also get why you would choose this analogy - it's an extreme example - if you can handle this you will be good at change.
However, here are fundamental reasons why this does not work;
They choose rock climbing 🧗‍♂️
They made the decision to climb this rock at this time and even this sport. They were not going about their day and someone thrust cleats in their hands and said, go climb that rock. Change often comes as a surprise to people. Our brains are wired to look for threat, to our physical and psychological wellbeing. So change initially can be seen as a threat. Depending on people's background and experience some change will feel more threatening than others. Your experience is not universal
They have been trained in rock climbing
It is not like 'here, climb this rock now.' Even if you provide the equipment they might not know how to use it. They are also trained in how to use the equipment what could go wrong and what you need to do to overcome it. Fully informed and trained. No one would say - it's intuitive (said with snarky voice) - they don't need training or comms. Plus, they do not climb the trickiest rock face first, they try smaller ones and build their confidence.

❗️PLEASE DO NOT USE ROCK CLIMBING AS AN ANALOGY AGAIN❗️

It kind of shows you know nothing about people, neuroscience and change. Maybe I will be convinced otherwise, as I progress through the book.

Feel free to disagree with me and join the free Business Book Club to convince me and the fellow BBC'ers. You have 1 whole month to get the book, read it.

FY27 is just around the corner. You might have your strategy in place but are your people ready to
embrace it 🌟
There are many ways to get your team ready, my favourites are helping them to understand what
uniqueness they can bring to
the table.
Knowing Strengths = Knowing Uniqueness 👏
This workshop is where we align their personal strengths to what they add to the team and to the
future vision. Knowing they can contribute their full and authentic selves and be appreciated by their
colleagues is a winner all round.
This 2 hour session is a perfect add in to a full day or day’s workshop. Plus, they leave with personal
insights beyond the team and amplifying their impact on the team.
Oh, you need a facilitator to run the whole thing!
I do that to.
Reach out and let’s chat about how we can make your next workshop better and your team excited

How do you know something has had its time in the sun and it is ready to get packed up and filed away as a lovely experience. 🤔

I am currently that way with Incahoots Business Book Club. 📚

I am reading the books and doing my prep, but I am finding less BBC'ers are attending.

Life gets busy, I sure understand that. I do not want to guilt anyone or add more obligation to anyone's plate.

It would be easy, if I no longer enjoyed choosing the books, reading them and gaining insights. That is not the case at all, I gained so many insights from the Marcus Collins book “For the Culture” that were immediately applicable and very thought provoking.

I have ideas about what it could morph into – ideas queen mode activated! 💭

Back to my original question - How do you know, it’s time is done?

If you are interested in joining in the discussion, then next book is

Master of Change by Brad Stulberg

You have till the end of July to review it, before we chat and talk it through – here is the link to the page to register for the free Business Book Club 👉 https://smpl.is/akqec

I guess you might think hearing "it is all your fault Christina" would not fill my heart with glee and a warm fuzzy feeling*

*whatever happened to warm fuzzies, they were a thing that you would say to people. 'Sending you warm fuzzies' 'feeling all the warm fuzzies' 'warm fuzzies' when you wanted to express platonic love

Where was I?

Oh yes - back to it being all my fault!

This last week this is what one of coaching clients that has completed by Design Your Life on Purpose program said to me and it is not the first time....

You see part of the program design is to uncover long denied dreams. Those dreams you have pushed aside, packed in a box, squished to the back of the cupboard, ignored or put in the when I have time basket. We unearth these hidden gems and bring them back into the light. They might not be exactly how you envisioned them when you dreamt them up, but they are fulfilling and compelling enough to pursue.

Pursuing these long-denied dreams does not have to be daunting, these dreams could be:
🌟An exploration
🌟An experimentation
🌟A side hustle in the making
🌟Beginning of a forever plan

The shape and size are less relevant. This is about pursuing your dream in whatever form it might take, that fits into you already full and complete life.

Some of the "its all your fault dreams" have been:

💭Purchasing a property in the Blue Mountains
💭Training people of Neuroscience and Change Management
💭Crafting incredible handmade leather goods
💭Moving into Marketing
💭Celebrating life affirming milestones - leaving an abusive partner, getting off a cancer drug

I am very happy to wear the "its all your fault, Christina" badge with pride, as these wonderful pathfinders are creating the life they have designed on purpose.

Want to pursue your dreams? 💫
You can do that in 1 of 2 ways:
DYLOP Cohorts - Group Coaching format, in both IRL and virtual delivery
Strengths based coaching - one on one, where we focus exclusively on you

The June/July cohorts will set you up to have a purposeful second half of the year.
Let’s chat about getting you onto the next one 👉 https://smpl.is/akohb

14% increase in Life satisfaction in 3 months – interested?

Embarking on the design your life on purpose quests, does it make a material difference? Of course, I gather ‘happy sheet’ feedback – the type of feedback gathered after a wonderful experience. I wanted to know more, was it delivering a change to their lives? That is the plan after all, to set people on the path to the life of their dreams, so I wanted to know was it happening or not?

When you sign up for the experience of design your life on purpose (DYLOP) quest you get asked a bunch of questions that let me know where you are right now. At the end of the 3-month program, you complete another survey.

The data tells me 2 important things:
The MOST important is that at the end of 3 months – pathfinders (collective noun for people designing their lives) report at 14% increase in life satisfaction. Yippee! The program works! I would only continue doing something year after year, if it worked and helped. Having clarity and direction does that for the pathfinders.

The SECOND piece of key data, is that pathfinders generally fall into 2 categories:
🎯 Know EXACTLY what they want to focus their life towards
🔍 Know NOTHING about how they want to focus their life

So, in the spirit of Strategic Life Map time – sign up so you can get clarity and direction and Jan/Feb next year you will be 14% happier than you are now.
