For most of my life, I thought something was wrong with me.

Why I shut down in conflict.
Why I overgave in relationships.
Why I avoided difficult conversations.
Why I replayed things in my head for days.
Why I felt responsible for everyone’s emotions.

But behavioural science shows something different:
Your behaviour is not random; it’s patterned.

Patterns form through:
early relational experiences
nervous system conditioning
emotional memory
behavioural reinforcement
identity beliefs

When I learned Extended DISC, nervous system literacy, and identity work, everything clicked.

1️⃣ Jump into the future
Anxiety, forecasting, “what if” spirals.
2️⃣ Fall back into the past
Emotional echoes, old wounds, familiar fears.
3️⃣ Freeze in the present
Shutdown, numbness, overwhelm.

Cognitive science shows that humans are meaning‑making systems.
We don’t respond to events.
We respond to the interpretation of events.
This is called predictive processing…

Your brain fills in the gaps based on past experiences.
Here’s how it works:
Something happens
Your brain predicts what it means
Your nervous system reacts to the prediction
You behave from the prediction, not the moment

This is why two people can hear the same sentence and have completely different emotional reactions.

Identity shapes meaning.
Meaning shapes emotion.
Emotion shapes behaviour.

“The Moment I Realised I Was Reacting to My Past, Not My Present”

For years, I thought I was reacting to people.
But neuroscience shows something different...

We react to emotional memory, not the moment.
The amygdala stores emotional associations long before the thinking brain can interpret them.

So when someone goes quiet, your body doesn’t respond to them…
it responds to the last time silence felt unsafe.

This was my pattern for years:
silence → rejection
disagreement → danger
boundaries → abandonment

None of it was really happening the way I thought.

It was my emotional echo, my nervous system replaying old information.
When I understood this, everything softened.

I wasn’t “too sensitive.”
I wasn’t “overreacting.”
I wasn’t broken.
I was patterned.

And patterns can be understood… and shifted.

One thing I’ve learned:
You don’t know what’s aligned until you try.
Some opportunities won’t be “the thing.”
But they will lead you to the thing.

This is how behavioural energy, identity, and the nervous system evolve:
Dominant energy grows through decisive action
Influencer energy grows through relational expression
Steadiness energy grows through gentle stretch
Compliant energy grows through safe experimentation

When Natalie asked if I taught Qigong, I could have said no.
Instead, I said yes and now I teach a 9‑week program.

When five women reached out wanting deeper identity work, I could have doubted myself. Instead, I said yes and watched their transformations unfold.

When Brent invited me into a podcast project, I could have hesitated.
Instead, I said yes and something meaningful is being born.
