Sydney Open is back in full Swing this weekend after a three year hiatus!

Great to see so many amazing new additions to Sydney’s CBD and surrounds open to the public, such as the Walsh Bay Arts Precinct, PHIVE, Quay Quarter and Poly Centre and as well as old favorites like the Masonic Centre, the Grand Synagogue and the QVB.

The amazing program curated by Sydney Living Museums, democratises spaces often not seen by the public and opens up some of Sydney’s most famous landmarks.

Since 1997, Sydney Open has welcomed over 89,000 visitors to explore more than 550 buildings in the city.

It was great to be in the room last week for the ’s event, ‘Friend or Foe: The Media’s Role in the Housing Affordability Crisis’.

Leading property journalists Ben Wilmot, Carolyn Cummins, Ben Pike, Joe Aston and Turi Condon shared their thoughts on what makes a good property story in the current climate, and how the media shapes the narrative around Australia’s National obsession, housing.

Was also great to connect with industry colleagues and professionals and hear how they are tackling the current challenges facing the property industry.

It was great to be in Paris earlier this month to attend our first global conference since Covid-19, and especially, our first ever Monocle conference. Held at , Chanel’s newly opened home for the preservation and promotion of the Métiers d’Art, the Monocle Quality of Life Conference was jam packed with engaging presentations and talks on business, culture, urbanism and current affairs, with a focus on “building a brighter future for our cities – and the lives we live in them”.

We heard from Ton Venhoeven, Principal Architect and Urban Planner at , Olivier Marty, founder of architectural practice , Ben Smith, CEO of and Louis Dreyfus, CEO of , national French newspaper, amongst many others.

A major highlight was a behind-the-scenes look at the Tour Montparnasse, Paris’ only skyscraper, which is undergoing redevelopment ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics, as well as hearing from architectural luminaries and Kathryn Gustafson from .

We’re looking forward to many more of these awesome in future!

Did you know its been Refugee Week this week in Australia around the world?

As we all, and especially Europe, continue to deal with possibly the most significant refugee crisis since WW2, this year’s Refugee Week is perhaps more important than ever.

This year’s theme is ‘healing’ and it was so great to see so many events around the country promoting refugee advocacy, after a two year pause.

Through creativity and conversation, this year’s Refugee Week has been a celebration of community, mutual care and the human ability to start again.

At Polymer, we’re big advocates for helping refugees from around the world and indeed often via food-based initiatives, a common denominator that connects all walks of life, but especially for refugees in new countries.

To that end we were also lucky enough to attend several events at the Festival around Paris over the past few days. Whilst back, in Australia we’re continuing out work helping support the growth of our long-term pro-bono partner, who provide employment pathways for refugees in baking.

And of course, not to mention enjoying some of the best bread and baked goodies on offer! 🥐 🥖 🍞

to last month when the held their annual charity regatta on Sydney’s stunning harbour. This year, almost $300,000 was raised in aid of The Haven Project, where the property industry builds homes for homeless youth.

It was great to also support our client, in their involvement in the event where Dare’s David Avidan entered his own yacht, Kaos. David and his crew of two won third place in their category, which was a great effort given it was their first regatta!

It was great to see so many senior executives from across Australia’s property industry, and 1999 World Surfing Champion , join forces to defeat dementia today at the Wipeout Dementia event on Bondi Beach.
With dementia now the single greatest cause of disability in people over 65, the property industry representatives banded together to raise $300,000 for critical research into prevention and earlier intervention of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias at the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing (CHeBA). An estimated 55 million people worldwide live with dementia and the number is expected to rise to 150 million by mid-century. Several of those surfing today have been directly impacted by friends and family suffering with the insidious disease, so it was heart whelming to know that more than 50 property organisations were represented, with teams from , , , Winten Property Group, , , m3property and and our long-term client, Avenor, who is a founder of the event, making it the biggest Wipeout Dementia event to date.

It has been our pleasure to assist emerging company Nexsphere over the last few months, as they have prepared for today’s launch of their first major project, the Bass Offshore Wind Energy (BOWE) project in Tasmania.

BOWE will design, construct and operate a large-scale wind farm in Commonwealth waters 30 kilometres off the coast of north-eastern Tasmania, and is one of many green energy solutions the company is targeting to help Australia reach and exceed its emissions reduction targets.

Working with the Nexsphere team and our long-time collaborators , we designed a project communications and community engagement strategy for BOWE and helped Nexsphere define its core purpose and company value set.

Congratulations to everyone at Nexsphere – we look forward to leading your community engagement in Tasmania in 2022 and celebrating many future successes with you.
