Once upon a time
There was this club in Bourke st Melbourne called The Metro. In the late 80’s It had these cool giant robotic truss arms with lights that waved down onto the dancefloor whilst the very packed dancefloor shook it down to the ground to Prince ‘Kiss’ and Run DMC’s ‘walk this way’

It closed and reopened a few times throughout the 90’s and 00’s.
I recall Prince once did an after party show there after his Melbourne Park gig that went till crazy late……

a while back it closed forever and got sold to developers and everyone who knew the place was a tad unimpressed as they had plans to gut it.

Well tonight here we are at the celebration opening of Melbourne’s all new LeMeridian!
What a top spot for a new Hotel!
And in fact the original iteration of the building (a Hotel) prior to it becoming a theatre and then a dance hall and live music venue.

I hope they somehow make a small acknowledgment to what was top nightspot in Melbourne a generation ago.
