At around 4 months, sleep can change FAST - and for a lot of parents it feels like it’s come completely out of nowhere.

Catnaps start. Wakes can suddenly happen every couple of hours. Settles and resettles get harder. Bedtime gets messy. Feeds become distracted. Your baby is suddenly looking at EVERYTHING. And then the drooling starts and everyone assumes teeth are on the way 😂

But there is a huge amount happening around this age, and most of it is completely normal.

Sleep cycles are maturing, sleep needs are dropping significantly, babies are becoming far more aware of their environment, and they can suddenly tolerate much more awake time than they could only a few weeks earlier.

Which is exactly why 4 months is such a good time to start looking at your sleep foundations.

Your routine. Your sleep environment. Your feeding pattern. Your settling approach. Making sure what you’re doing actually matches where your baby is developmentally now.

If you want somewhere to start, comment SLEEPYTRAIN and I’ll send you our FREE Sleep Training Guide with age-appropriate routines, settling technique recommendations and sleep environment guidance.

And if you’re ready for personalised support, our consultation options are linked in bio.

Separation anxiety can absolutely throw sleep sideways - and it doesn’t necessarily mean you need to completely change everything you’re doing.

It commonly ramps up around developmental periods, and you might suddenly see more clinginess, bedtime protests, difficulty being put down, increased night waking or a baby who was previously quite happy in their cot suddenly wanting you VERY close.

A few things I’ll often look at:

1:1 time - increase that intentional connection throughout the day, particularly if there have been changes like daycare, returning to work, a new sibling or simply a particularly clingy developmental stage.

Increase the wind down - some babies need a little more time to transition from you being right there with them to going to sleep. Slow the bedtime routine down and give them that extra connection before bed.

Change your response - sometimes the settling approach that worked beautifully a few weeks ago simply isn’t the right fit during a peak in separation anxiety. You can increase your presence and support without throwing your entire routine out the window.

And remember, separation anxiety is developmentally normal. The aim isn’t to stop your baby wanting you - it’s to support them through the stage while keeping sleep as consistent as you realistically can.

If sleep has suddenly gone pear-shaped alongside a sleep regression, I have detailed blogs covering some of the most common sleep regression periods 👇🏼

Comment your baby’s age and I’ll send you the relevant guide:

SNEAKY — 4 month regression
HELPUS — 8–10 month regression
12MONTH — 12 month regression
1518 — 15–18 month regression
2HELP — 2 year regression

Newborn wake windows 👇🏼

One of the biggest things I want new parents to know is that wake windows are a guide - not a rule book.

As a rough starting point:

0–3 weeks → 45–60 minutes
3–6 weeks → 60–90 minutes
6–12 weeks → 75–120 minutes

But there can be huge variation within these ranges.

Newborns generally need around 14–17 hours of total sleep across 24 hours, and how that sleep is distributed can look completely different from one baby to another.

So naturally, their awake time can look different too.

And remember - a wake window isn’t necessarily the amount of time your baby should be asleep by.

Sleep latency matters. This is the time it takes your baby to actually fall asleep once you begin settling. In an ideal world we want to see 5-20 minutes *chefs kiss*.

Some babies will happily stay awake longer than these guides. Others will need sleep sooner. And some days your newborn will seemingly throw the entire rule book out the window 😂

The goal isn’t to spend your day staring at the clock trying to hit the “perfect” wake window.

It’s understanding your baby’s total sleep needs, their cues, how long they take to fall asleep and how their sleep is actually playing out across the full 24 hours.

If you’re in those newborn weeks and constantly wondering “Is this normal? Am I doing this right? Should my baby be sleeping more?” - you can book one of our Newborn Reassurance Calls via the link in bio.

We can chat through sleep, feeding, routines, settling and what you can realistically expect at this age - without trying to turn your newborn into a schedule.

Apparently we’re cutting second molars over here… and believe me, we KNOW about it 😂

Lucas is grumpy. Irritable. Crying over absolutely everything. His feeding has been a little off at times.

And I am constantly messaging my mums chat whining and moaning about how much whining and moaning HE is doing 😂

But his sleep?

Completely normal.

No extra night wakes. No early mornings. No bedtime battles. No nap issues.

And I think this is such an important reminder because teething gets blamed for A LOT when it comes to baby and toddler sleep.

Can teething cause discomfort? Absolutely.

Can that discomfort impact sleep for some babies and toddlers? Yep.

But teething doesn’t automatically mean sleep is going to fall apart - even when it’s those dreaded second molars.

If your little one suddenly starts waking frequently, fighting sleep or waking early and it continues night after night, don’t immediately assume it must be their teeth.

Look at what’s happening across the whole 24 hours.

Are there signs of discomfort during the day?
Has their feeding changed?
Are they more irritable than usual?
Is there something else going on with their routine, sleep needs or development?

Because sometimes it genuinely is teething.

And sometimes we’ve been blaming the same tooth for three weeks while something completely different is going on 😂

Follow Eva Beke & Team - Baby & Toddler Sleep Consultants for more baby and toddler sleep without blaming absolutely everything on teeth.

Nap transitions aren’t always as simple as just dropping a nap and hoping for the best.

There’s usually an awkward in-between period where some days they cope beautifully on fewer naps… and other days they absolutely do not 😂

You might see early mornings, split nights, bedtime battles, naps suddenly being refused or a very overtired baby by the end of the day.

And this is where The 4 Week Sleep Reset can really help.

If your baby is ready for a nap transition, you’ll have four weeks of support while you actually make that transition.

We can help you work out when to drop the nap, how to redistribute their day sleep, what their new routine could look like, when to use an earlier bedtime, what to do if they still need the extra nap some days, and troubleshoot with you if nights or mornings become messy while everything adjusts.

Because nap transitions can take a few weeks to properly settle — you don’t necessarily need a perfect new routine overnight.

And throughout the Reset you’ll have 2 live Q&As each week, daily Q&A support and bite-sized audios Monday–Friday, so you can ask questions and make adjustments as you go.

Plus, the Reset covers the bigger picture of sleep too — settling, night wakes, early rising, flexible days and naps on the go.

You have 24 hours left to lock in the 4 Week Sleep Reset for $99.

Early morning wakes can be one of the HARDEST sleep issues to crack - because there isn’t one single reason they happen.

Your baby might need more sleep pressure.

They might actually need less.

They might be hungry.

Their room might be getting light at 5.00am.

Or what happens when they wake might accidentally be reinforcing that 5.00am start.

And this is exactly why I don’t love throwing generic sleep advice at families.

You need to know what’s working for YOUR baby, what isn’t, and what actually needs changing.

That’s a huge part of what we’re doing inside our 4 Week Sleep Reset.

Think of it almost like group sleep coaching - without the 1:1 price tag.

I’m teaching you the same foundations we work through with our 1:1 clients, but in simple, bite-sized education you can actually implement at home.

We’ll work through routines, naps, nights, early wakes, settling, flexible days and naps on the go - while helping you figure out:

What’s already working? Keep it.

What isn’t working? Let’s understand why.

What actually needs changing? That’s where we focus.

Because a sleep reset does NOT mean throwing everything you currently do in the bin and starting again.

It’s about giving you the education and support to look at your baby’s sleep as a whole and feel confident making the changes that are actually relevant to your family.

You’ll also have 2 live Q&As every week, daily Q&A support, bite-sized audios Monday–Friday and lifetime access.

All for $99.

We start THIS MONDAY and there are only 3 days left to join.

If your baby falls asleep fine… then wakes 30–60 minutes later, that’s a false start.

And despite what Instagram might have you believe, it isn’t always as simple as “they’re overtired” or “they’ll grow out of it”.

False starts can be linked to bedtime timing, sleep pressure, nap balance, how the day has gone, developmental changes or even the way your baby is settling.

The trick is working out what their sleep is actually telling you - and that is exactly what we’re teaching inside the 4 Week Sleep Reset.

We’re covering routines, naps, nights, early wakes, settling techniques, flexible days, naps on the go and how to actually make changes without second guessing every single thing.

The Reset is $99 and includes daily bite-sized audios, 2 live Q&As every week, daily Q&A support with a certified sleep consultant with lifetime access.

You can also add a personalised sleep plan for $69 which is the exact same plan our 1-1 clients get - but that offer finishes tomorrow 🤪 this mumma needs to write them all! Imagine 8-10 pages or PERSONALISED content for only $159 total and 4 weeks of support.

Final doors to the Reset close Sunday at 11.59pm.

Still feeding your toddler overnight and wondering how the hell you’re supposed to stop?

Night weaning does NOT have to mean suddenly cutting everything out in one night.

For a lot of toddlers, a gradual approach works really well.

Before you start, make sure they’re eating enough across the day and getting plenty of opportunities for milk, meals and snacks.

Then start reducing the overnight feed slowly.

For bottles, that might mean reducing by around 30ml at a time.

For breastfeeding, that might mean shortening the feed by a couple of minutes at a time.

And then, importantly, replacing the feed with another form of support.

Cuddles. Back rubs. Reassurance. Sitting with them. Whatever feels appropriate for your child and your family.

Because night weaning is not just about removing milk.

It’s also about helping your toddler adjust to a new way of getting back to sleep overnight.

And if you’re dealing with night wakes, settling battles, early rising, nap issues or a routine that feels completely off, that’s exactly what we cover inside the 4 Week Sleep Reset.

It’s everything we teach our 1:1 families, broken down into simple, bite-sized education you can actually use at home.

You’ll learn about routines, naps, settling techniques, night wakes, early rising, flexible days and naps on the go.

Plus you’ll get 2 live Q&As every week, daily Q&A support, bite-sized audios Monday–Friday and lifetime access to the education.
