Regulatory insight is now being gathered at community level in the NT.

The NDIS Commission is piloting a new community check-in program with the Northern Territory Disability Advocacy Consortium.

Local disability advocates will conduct check-ins with NDIS participants, families, carers and community leaders in the NT. The Commission states the approach is designed to be accessible, culturally safe and trusted.

According to the Commission, the program will:

🟠Help identify emerging issues
🟠Support access to advocacy and referral pathways
🟠Provide local insights to inform the Commission's regulatory work

The Commission has said it has a strong focus on quality and safe service delivery in regional, rural and remote communities, and that it has heard the importance of stronger local engagement and community connections.

For providers, this is a signal of where regulatory attention on community-level experience is heading. Providers delivering supports in regional, rural and remote areas should be able to show how participant feedback, complaints and escalation pathways work in practice.

We were deeply saddened to learn of the death of NDIS participant Joanne Keogh. Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones.

The NDIS Commission has commenced Federal Court proceedings against Amicus Community Services Limited and a former support worker in relation to her death. These are the Commission's allegations; the matter is before the Court.

Every person receiving NDIS supports has the right to safe, high-quality services. Providers and workers must meet their obligations.
