‼️IMPORTANT UPDATE‼️
October 02, 2026
NEW AUSTRALIA STUDENT VISA RULES

Planning to study in Australia? Here’s what you need to know.

📌 CAN STILL APPLY ONSHORE?
Yes, but not everyone can apply for a Student visa while in Australia.

There are specific exemptions for certain students and circumstances, including:
✅ Completed their course and are progressing to a higher-level course
✅ Need additional time to finish their current studies
✅ Are studying a PhD or school program
✅ Are sponsored by DFAT or Defence
✅ Cannot complete their course due to provider default

🎓Diploma → Bachelor’s?
An onshore application may still be possible, provided you meet the required course progression and eligibility rules.

CAN FILIPINO STUDENTS BRING THEIR FAMILY?
Eligible Filipino students may still be able to include their partner and dependent children under the ASEAN exception.

⚠️ Eligible family members generally need to apply together with the main student and be in the same location when lodging the application.

ALREADY HAVE A VISA OR APPLIED BEFORE OCTOBER 2?
Your existing visa is not automatically affected. Applications lodged before 2nd of October 2026 continue to be assessed under the rules applicable when they were lodged.

📩 Need guidance and options?

📌 Please refer to the attached Department of Home Affairs information sheet for full details.

🇦🇺🚨 WHO CAN STILL APPLY FOR A FURTHER STUDENT VISA ONSHORE?

From 2 October 2026, most current Student Visa holders applying for a further Subclass 500 Student Visa will need to apply from outside Australia.

However, important onshore exceptions have been introduced.

🎓 The following students may still be able to apply for a further Student Visa while in Australia:

🔹 Doctoral students (PhD)

🔹 Students who cannot complete their registered course because of provider default

🔹 Students who require a further Student Visa to complete the principal course for which their current visa was granted

🔹 Students who can demonstrate course progression

📌 IMPORTANT:
If you fall within one of these specified classes, you may be able to lodge a further Student Visa application onshore, subject to meeting all other visa requirements.
