How was your holiday everyone? It's an amazing time of year, when so much of the business world just pauses and there's a universal 'ahhhhhhhh'.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Did you rest up? Did you resist the urge to check emails, voicemails and work texts?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I sure did! I didn't even turn my computer on once during the break and wow would the 2009 business owner in me be floored by this fact.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You see for so many of my thirteen Christmases in business, I couldn't really switch off. Even if I had finished up my projects for the year and was 'shut down' my brain couldn't switch out of biz mode. I'd spend half the holidays thinking about work, working 'on my business' (as that was the only time I really dedicated to doing it) and fielding client emails and texts that were nice and always started off with a 'sorry I know you're on holidays but...' and made feel like I couldn't breathe.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It wasn't the clients' fault at all though that these texts were coming through on 'the holidays'. They were just doing what I had basically shown them was ok? It was my own doing.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I hadn't learnt the art of boundaries, why they're needed, how to create healthy ones and how to ensure they work. When you're a busy business owner, especially in a service business, they are truly one of the most important pieces of the puzzle to ensure your success.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I'm not going to sugarcoat it, the last two years have been crap. ❤️ They've been hard, They’ve been weird, they’ve been heartbreaking and they have been life-changing for so many.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

But do you know what? They have also been magical. ✨ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Two years filled with resilience, hope, persistence, love, gratitude, success and more.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

What’s your elevator pitch? Ie. If you meet someone and they say the old ‘what do you do’, what do you tell them? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

🛗 A good elevator pitch should sum up your business, key service and result you provide, and why you’re different from your competitors - all in just a minute ie. You should be able to get it out in full before the evaluator gets to the ground floor and everyone steps off.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s kind of an ‘old school’ name for it but the power of being able to confidently and concisely tell someone about your world and how you help people is still as important as ever.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So what do you include in it? Here’s our tips - save the post to refer back on cos this should definitely be on your todo list for 2022! 🙌⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

✔️ Use words that they’ll understand rather than buzz words or industry jargon. If the first words out of your mouth are industry lingo (that someone who isn’t an expert at what you do has no hope of understanding) then you’ve already lost them. You’ll see their eyes glaze over as they make a mental todo list in their head or ponder about what they should eat for dinner instead. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✔️ Include your why. People respond to passion and emotion. That thing that lights you up? That is the reason you love what you do? Talk about that!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✔️ Keep it solution focused rather than describing ‘how you do it’.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✔️ Keep it to under a minute. 15 - 60 seconds is key. People don’t have a long attention span and nobody likes a waffle unless it’s got strawberries and ice-cream.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✔️ Practice. You want to live and breathe it so when it flows out of your mouth either in person or on camera (if you’re doing videos or online networking events), it just feels 1000% authentic and in flow. Grab your camera, practice it, say it out loud, read it while you’re having a coffee…. Live it!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I love Christmas, it’s 1000% my favourite time of year 🎄 I always take a few weeks off during the time to rest and reset. That wasn’t always the case though. For many years I had this belief that I ‘couldn’t ever’ really have a proper break. That I had to be ‘on’ all the time.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One Christmas holidays I even got up to post an Instagram post every single morning of the two week break, without fail by 6.45am per the clients request. Ahhh the days when you couldn’t schedule an Insta post 😂 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I could have found a better way. I could have given it to one of my team. I could have said no. I could have hired an external contractor? But I didn’t. I did it myself. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I felt I had to do everything myself. That I couldn’t possibly have the break I so badly needed.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That was before. Before I got my structure right. Before I understood how badly I needed to enforce boundaries. Before I learnt how to structure my business properly so it supported me rather than the other way round.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
