🚨 Junior Rate Changes Are Coming — What Employers Need to Know

Junior pay rates are changing following a Fair Work Commission decision impacting retail, fast food and pharmacy employers. For many businesses, this creates a real challenge — how do you manage increasing wage costs while remaining compliant and commercially sustainable? There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, but doing nothing isn’t an option.

From December 2026, employees aged 18–20 will progressively move to full adult pay rates after 6 months’ employment. While the changes are not yet in effect, employers should start planning now to understand the financial and operational impact.

✅ We’ve created a free employer checklist to help you identify impacted employees, understand when changes apply, plan for cost increases and stay compliant.
