A little photo of Saturn, taken Thursday 1st July using my 8in Dobsonian telescope and an old single lens iPhone I had kicking about.

The telescope doesn't have any form of tracking and it isn't the best for heavy cameras to be mounted to it. So you have to hold the phone up to the lens and wait for the planet / object to float through the field of view and hope that the camera stays focused and not over exposed.

But I do have a sweet little astrocam which I've found the adapter for and I now have a computer that runs an older version of Windows (we're a Mac family here) so I might be able to snag some slightly better photos (no-one has made a mac compatible piece of software for the camera :( )

Heads up! On Wednesday 26th May there will be a total lunar eclipse that is visible from Australia!

Conveniently I'll be right near 2 of Australia's most famous landmarks that night, so here's hoping for clear skies!

Total lunar eclipse on May 26, 2021: Where and when is the Blood Moon visible and what will it look like? Visibility map, animation, and local times.

Great photo. Next challenge: Putting man on the moon.

A photographer has created the world's clearest picture of the moon's craters and isn't it a beauty! Photographer Andrew McCarthy stacked thousands of pictures taken at different moon phases and combined it into one amazing picture to show it off in all its glory. Amazing 🌝!
